Prince doesn't crave charts and popularity? Bollocks!

Amazing how Prince adds to his live set lists any song another artist has a hit with.

Nothing compares 2 U has featured in nearly every concert since Sinead O'Connor took it to number one. Yet NEVER played before.

Once the Bangles made the top slot, "Manic Monday" made it into the Parade Hit and run shows.

The moment Alicia Keys puts out "How Come", he adds it to the tour.

He could smile happily and rake in the royalities. But no. He feels he has to "re-claim" what is his!

He needs a manager who can spot the hits and release them!

Funny how Prince sacked Fagnoli, and the first thing Fagnoli does is take on Sinead, and get her to do a cover. The guy was switched on and knew a hit when he heard it!

All artists want to share their work with as broad an audience as possible so of course he's talking bollox.

It's just a cover-up attitude for declining sales.

I started a thread earlier in the year comparing Prince releasing singles to posting on the Org. It makes your day when one of your threads gets a lot of response and a lot of good star ratings, but you get a little dis-appointed when your thread drops to page 2 within a few hours. Likewise, I can't believe that Prince genuinely doesn't care if one of his albums/singles sinks without trace within a few weeks.

Also,Prince started performing "If I Was Your Girlfriend" alot during his mid-90s concerts, after it appeared on the 10-million selling TLC album 'CrazySexyCool'.So,I think he does appreciate having a "hit" every now and then, despite what he says smile

GIVEN: Prince is a pop artist.
COROLLARY #1: Pop artists are gauged by popularity.
COROLLARY #2: Charts determine the popularity of a hit record.
STATEMENT: Prince has not had a hit record in recent years.
CONCLUSION: Prince is no longer a popular pop artist.
THERFORE: Prince needs a hit record on the pop charts.

Brilliant analysis PFunkjazz.

I don't comprehend how Madonna and Michael Jackson are so "in" pop-wise. They are no longer innovators; only followers. The public gets hard-ons for every piece of garbage Madonna and MJ put on the radio. For the most part, the only reason the songs are played are because they are Madonna and MJ, not because they are actually acceptable songs.

Prince is an innovator who can be very influential, but he has chosen not to supply it to the masses. Does he not realize that his following continues to diminish? He is still the punchline of many jokes. Come on Prince, spread the word! "How do the people really know what they want, when they don't know what they need." -- Prince

Now there's a formula all good musicians should follow. Becuase, I mean, the charts nowadays are filled with musicians and the songs they write. My, my...the musical genius that tops 'the charts' these days...Justin, Britney, JaRule, Ashanti...Good role models for all aspiring musicians and songwriters rolleyes

whofarted You can't get anymore sarcastic than that...

What's with this sudden onslaught of... "This is what Prince needs to do" Everytime he releases something officially, this site in particular becomes bombarded with, 'advice for Prince', 'Prince should...', 'Prince needs to', 'Hey, why doesn't Prince...'

Give it break, Prince should do whatever the hell he wants, or what he feels. Just like we all do what we want. Besides, if he really listened to us, and attempted to comply with a large fan base of his (namely the org), he'd go nuts trying to satisfy us. There's always gonna be some one that complains; "This sux", "This didn't get released soon enough", "I've waited all this time for it, and I don't like it" I'm not gonna go there again, we're difficult fans...

Of course he wants his songs on the radio.
Unforunate for him, he's taken himself out
of the loop. It takes $$$ from the record
companies to get played. Unless he's willing
to sacrifice his beliefs on the biz, he'll
find it almost impossible to get airplay.
However, if ever there was an artist who could
write an undeniable hit, it's Prince.
I sort of like him this way. We get front rows
at his concerts. It's like he's back underground
again, like when he first started. He's still
writing and releasing great songs and it's only
if your one of the few ppl "in-the-know" that you
get to hear them. biggrin
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
