 you know what? i think that about this album - it deserves revisiting. Ive posted before that it needs peace and quiet its reflective and needs to be heard LOUD with no interference. Ive thought about this and i think many of princes albums werent all that on first listen as they are complex. You have to listen several times to get caught up, i also think people rate the early stuff so highly because of nostalgia. There is no consistency in this album. No link between each track. No concept. Som very good tracks mixed with very mediocre ones. Even the sound itself is not consistent like the tunes were taken from different eras of Prince's career.
The second half is close to catastrophic. Mr Goodnight is one ofPrince's worst tunes ever. And the pop tunes at the end are weak like if Prince did notkno how to end this shit off. I'm glad it was free.  [Edited 6/10/08 1:24am] | |

Regardless of what I think of it.....
It didn't stop me shelling out for the Japanese holographic digipack cd at The Dawns boat party this weekend.... Even though I got about 20 of the Paper card sleeve version!!!

I think everyone here knows that I love this album. The credits were whacky, because Prince played most of the parts (as usual). Yes, that is Prince on bass on Chelsea Rodgers, and on drums as well. The 'Planet Earth' album is very well recorded and mixed. Prince uses certain vocal phrasings and styles he hasn't used in ages. Besides the album being a bit short, and the inclusion of "Mr Goodnight", it is a perfect album. Peace. ~G Aren't you the same person who claimed it was going to be a rock album? Apparently you know as much about a genre of music as you do about good music in general if you qualify Planet Earth as, save for one track, perfect. And it's hardly divided Prince fans. yeah it's amazing in several areas:
amazing that he released it 2 represent himself amazing that no one through the copies back at him during the london gigs amazing that months later, it's still the piece of shit album it was when it was released and THE MOST AMAZING THING ABOUT IT IS: that after almost of a year later, there r still threads about this fucked up album saying it's great?   man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81 | |

"Planet Earth" is a grower... I still don't like this album... sounds like a bunch of tracks thrown together from 3121 and Musicology...

you can please some of the people some of the time...never always. the album is diverse...like musical tastes...something for everyone. just cuz you like or don't like a song doesn't make you a critic. if you like it go with it. if not..just leave it alone. Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews. | |

I thought the title track was wonderful, and it was great to see Wendy and Lisa are working with him again. But overall I didn't really care for the album. |

If this song was released anytime from 1985-1992 he would've had a major hit with it. And I've never understood why All The Midnites gets slated on here - it's gorgeous. | |

The environmental theme of 'Planet Earth' makes me  I've heard this 'Let's protect/save the planet' meme ad-nauseum.
