Planet Earth Is Amazing To be honest I was hesitant to buy Planet Earth as I'm not a big fan of Prince's later Stuff.
But I just bought Planet Earth for 4 euro the other day, and holy shit this album is amazing, it's now in my top 5. BTW Chelsea Rodgers is pure funk..is that Prince playing Bass?

An amazing mediocrity. Yes, it is. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I'm just gonna go on record and say that Planet Earth is one of the most polarizing albums Prince has made. I don't think there's any in-between here. Those that love it REALLY REALLY LOVE IT. But those that hate it..well..I mean...they're probably regretting the day that they even purchase it. They would rather see it crushed by a steamroller. I think a lot of those opinions are unfair and irrational since the album isn't THAT bad. Maybe a couple of tracks are lame, but the strong songs really do shine thorough.
I respect Prince for making this though. I just wish folks would stop trying to look for another "Sign O' The Times". And here come the bashers. Time to go. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Actually, I fall squarely into another category: those that are simply underwhelemed. It isn't as horrible as NewPowerSoul, but it is a fairly lackluster effort. It sounds like P just cobbled together a few songs that weren't good enough to be included on Musicology or 3121, and released it as an album. Nothing on it is too awful to listen to, but nothing on it makes me sit up and go "oh, HELL YEAH". It is a dull, mediocre album. It doesn't deserve the bashing it gets from its detractors, but it also is no where near "amazing". Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Love "Planet Earth" The song is amazing live.
Love "Somehwhere & Guitar" ditto "Chelsea Rodgers" was an anthem at O2 last year. I love a lot and like all of the CD. I will always connect it with 2months of fantastic fun in London. I have over 20 copies which are like mementoes of each gig! "My God it's full of Stars"

Before 'Planet Earth' was released, I had predicted that it would divide his fans more than usual, and it certainly did.
I think everyone here knows that I love this album. The credits were whacky, because Prince played most of the parts (as usual). Yes, that is Prince on bass on Chelsea Rodgers, and on drums as well. The 'Planet Earth' album is very well recorded and mixed. Prince uses certain vocal phrasings and styles he hasn't used in ages. Besides the album being a bit short, and the inclusion of "Mr Goodnight", it is a perfect album. Peace. ~G "He's a musician's musician..."

Planet Earth, Guitar, The One you wanna C, Chelsea Rogers, SHOE - all AMAZING live! Everyone at the aftershow last summer was going CRAZY to these songs, and I noticed the dance floor filled up pretty quickly at the Boat party on Sat night when CR was played, rip off or no rip off, it's still great!!

I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

i dont think its a masterpiece at all...just isnt strong enough imo, but its also not bad at all, with a few great tracks (guitar, somewhere here.., lion of judah)
its also a perfect point of why its so hard being a prince fan...his fans are so detestable and infuriating. he cant release an album without things turning into a warzone amongst fans, though in fairness maybe its part of the fun, but its also sickening how opinionated fans are...and maybe that goes for all of us. p.s. chelsea rogers isnt great and resolution sucks, thats a fact XD Wouldn't you love to love me?

Except for that Prince used it to make something much better than the original And you know, I was thinking that that song Anytime or place is also a rip off from another song. I looked between my old cd's and it was San Salvador from .....Azoto, I didn't even know that name PE is certainly not one of P's masterpieces but 50% is good and 50% just doesn't stick to my mind. Guitar is super and Lion of Juday is a minor point. I was so curious because Wendy played on it but it's actually boring/strange (his voice?) Although it reminds me of cinnamon girl and I like that one. But it's a cd that (again) grew on me in time but it lacks that specialness that his songs had in the past but I don't mind at all.
