Prince's acting skills discussed in Pioneer Press article

Chris Hewitt, the St. Paul Pioneer Press's Movie critic wrote an article about singers who become actors.

This was the relevent text in the article:

"In this vein, a local boy provides a cautionary tale for Eminem. Like Eminem, Prince made a splash with an autobiographical movie that hewed closely to his own rags-to-riches-in-the-heartland bio. But when Prince tried to leverage that into films where he wasn't playing himself, he lost credibility in the movie and music worlds. In other words, Eminem: Rent "Under the Cherry Moon." Heed its lessons. There but for the grace of MGM go you"

There was also a sidebar list on the front page of the five best and five worst performances by a singers in movies. Next to the list was a still picture of Prince playing the piano in the intro to UTCM.

Five best performances by singers:
1. Barbra Streisand, "Funny Girl"
2. Cher, "Silwood"
3. Mark Wahlberg, "Boogie Nights"
4. Queen Latifah, "Living OUt Loud"
5. Frank Sinatra, "The Manchurian Candidate"

Five worst performances by singers:
1. Prince, "Under the Cherry Moon"
2. Lance Bass, "On the Line"
3. Mark Wahlberg, "Planet of the Apes"
4. The Bee Gees, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"
5. Madonna, "The Next Best Thing"

I forgot, on a seperate note, there was a Prince reference on Saturday Night Live last night. Characters were playing "Celebrity" and the answer was "Prince" so the character sang "Little Red Corvette".

I know Raspberrywoman that you wanted to post this sad

BTW how funny is it that the performance in "Under the Cherry Moon" was deemed worse then a performance by Lance Bass?

And say what??? go on...
GOODLUCK EMINEM * all people who share talent

LET me say this...Those that write the articles that are supposed to mean DIDDLY don't have a clue how to act in the first place; therefore, how can they who SO choose to say who can act and can't...

Critics seem to find the words to INSULT those who have acted and/or simply shared their talent: nonetheless as well as, PAID interest in doing so...

With that being said...those who write articles on ACTOR(s) female or male and/or MUSIC critics have no clue as to how to perform themselves and have no other recourse but to INSULT those who "standup" and DO instead of sit, think, write and never ACT or PLAY an instrument in their entire life.

WE as intelligent CON-Sumers GO blindly in2 their snares of relevance as to ponder wow DOES what they say mean SQUAT???

I say U this...NO critics incur my VOTE on anything they ever write because they simply are opporunists WHO seeked to take the opportunity to INSULT those who actually SHARE their talent...

THANK U

P.S. rose

and ahhh Under the Cherry Moon will (and anything musicians do)...Will and/or usually get "GREAT REVIEWS when they DIE (pass beyond)"... ever wonder why that is>??? Critics can't seem to give credit to beings who are alive on this planet in spirit but do so when they DIE (passover) Do U think this is so they can GET to heaven faster than those who GET TO HEAVEN first?

"HEAVEN is within...it's EVERYWHERE act the right way ALLWAYS" FOLLOW THE ways of Jesus Christ ...and U will do greater things...for GOD (jehovah) ...service thru GOD to all of humanity...and in return U service yourself with more love 2 GIVE...thank u.

GODBLISS

Thank U

With No Judgement Just "freedom" of my feelings and those don't have to include a response from those upon mine...but HOPE U can laugh and smile or there is no sense of being being...GODBLISS again thank u.

Take things a little too seriously do we? You act like the newspaper said something personal about you.

The truth is that "Under the Cherry Moon" is not looked upon kindly by anyone but the hardcore Prince fans.

Tom

1.) Mark Walhberg did a great job in Planet of The Apes, not to mention he looked hot as hell in those tight pants.

2.) Under the Cherry Moon was a fun movie that showed a playful side of Prince. It could have easily been autobiographical of his attitude at the time. Living it up and enjoying life.

3.) Do we really need an Eminem movie? Haven't we heard his story already. He's not new. 8 Mile just looks like a big pile of drama for people who like to dwell in it. The story line couldnt be any more generic (the poor guy with dreams of making it big, goes against all odds to follow his dream, lands a hot woman along the way, end of movie). ZZZ.

And in more Prince reference news last night on the "King of Queens" Doug was talking to an old girlfriend and he said, "I believe we ate here on our first date right after we watched a four-foot-tall blackman change the face of music in the movie 'Purple Rain'"

...or something to that effect.

That critic is a punk. UTCM is a fun movie, well shot and enjoyable. I'd like to see his funky a$$ come up with something even remotely as good. Sucka! blackeye

And in even more Prince reference news at half-time of the ESPN Wednesday night basketball game (Bucks vs Nets) Stuart Scott sang "I knew a boy named Nikki, I guess you could say he was a point guard" talking about Nick Van Exel of the Mavs.
