RAINBOW EDUCATION OR WHAT?

Every now and again i have read comments that are a bit negative about the rainbow children cd and its unique flavour. Now that its a year old id like to ask fans if they see it as a classic or as a not so good piece of music?.Personally,i have never listened to jazz influenced music until now but because of who wrote it,i think its a masterpiece and a breath of fresh air when compared to the garbage in the charts.Just shows you how much of a genius prince is when he can make you enjoy music that normally isnt your thing.

It's all about opening up to something and being able to let people do their own thing.
I just STILL have the feeling when I listen to TRC that some of the lyrics SEEM a bit...naieve and judging towards people who think (or believe) differently than Prince, which to me is a bit of a cold shower after all the Purple Rain's , Paisley Park's, Controversy's, Anna Stesia's, The Cross's etc.
The Love 4 One Another thing seems to have shifted. I cannot let go of these thoughts when listening to it, even though the album is pretty amazing.
And it is better LIVE...

YEP,I AGREE THAT PRINCE IS GOING A LITTLE O.T.T. WITH HIS JUDGING OF OTHERS AND WE KNOW WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT JUDGING PEOPLE.I HAVE READ WHAT PRINCE THINKS ABOUT DRINKING MILK AND EATING MEAT AND HE PROBABLY THINKS VERY LITTLE OF MEAT EATERS LIKE MYSELF.BUT ITS A FREE WORLD AND I ACCEPT VEGANS AND CARNIVORS ALIKE.

Yep, most of us know that the bible tells us not to judge others but it's ok to treat women and homosexuals as second class citizens...hmmm.

TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ON THE SUBJECT OF HOMOSEXUALS AND WOMEN.I WOULD RATHER SEE PRINCE GET THE CREDIT HE DESERVES THAN THAT MORON OF MORONS,EMINEM.HIS VIEWS ARE FAR WORSE.

Altho' i'm no fan of Eminem i believe he is just an act whereas i think Prince really does mean what he says.

The problem with Eminem is that a lot of his fans don't realise what his act is about and take his work for real, such is the dumbass audience he caters to.

Eminem meaning it or not is irrelavant. As it goes, I think he does.
And just because Prince believes in God doesn't mean he thinks woman and homosexuals are second class citizens. He might, but you don't know !

PRINCE DOES KNOW HOW TO TREAT A LADY.LISTEN TO SOME OF HIS MORE SOULFUL WORK TO SEE WHAT I MEAN.AND HIS OWN OPINIONS MAYBE A BIT O.T.T. BUT AT LEAST HE ISNT TRYING TO SHOCK TO SELL RECORDS LIKE EMINEM(WHO DOES MEAN IT ALSO)

Oh, come on, a real homophobe wouldn't duet with Elton John.

So therefore it IS relevant.

Eminen was getting a lot of bad press about his homophobic lyrics just before that performance.
I think the record company probably persuaded him to do it for the sake of keeping him on the radio and selling records. It certainly worked, all the bad press stopped !

Which still didn't stop him from moaning about his songs not being played, despite them being on heavy rotation on MTV and every commercial radio station in the world !!

I really hate Eminem !!

Rainbow Children is not a classic... out of all his albums without a doubt the one i listen to least...
I agree with Cloud altho he was a bit harsh.

THE MORE I THINK ABOUT IT THE MORE IM INCLINED TO LIVE AND LET LIVE WITH PRINCE AND HIS OPINIONS.AS I HAVE SAID MANY TIMES THE REAL MUSICAL MORON IS EMINEM AND ALL OTHER ARTISTS WHO CORRURT THE YOUNG TO SELL RECORDS AND CAUSE MORE PROBLEMS FOR DIFFERENT RELIGIONS ,ETHNIC GROUPS,AND SEXUAL MINORITIES.

The music on The Rainbow Children is fine by the way,
i reckon it's his most adventurous and impressive set in years...it's just the message i have a problem with.

when it comes to art, you don't really need to agree (or disagree, for that matter) you simply need to be open enough to undertstand where the artist is coming from... that is precisely the difference between Prince and what is on the radio (not that there isn't anybody of artistic merit being played on the radio, but let's face it, most aren't). Yes, Prince believes in a particular religion and yes, he enjoys singing about it and hoping others will understand and even come to believe in that same thing. That is no different than all of these other so called pop artists preaching about yoga, tibetam buddhism, or khaballah...the problem lies within the fact that Prince is talking about Christianity, something that has become "preachy" or even "wrong" here in the states. People are always free to talk about every other religion but when it comes to Christianity, they are always looked at in a bad light.

its a concept album, something we dont c anymore.all the songs tell a story relating 2 the album title, which takes time and thought 4 it 2 work musically. most artist just throw 10 or 11 songs 2gether without making it related 2 the albums theme. just a group of songs. this and his lyrics are why this would not have gone over well with radio, because it shows 2 much artistic control and is totally different from the crap we are hearing 2day. i simply love this lp the lyrics are sometimes over bearing but the idea certainly works. prince music is all ways best when he tries 2 please himself first and not radio[rave].
