positivity 'bout productivity y'all !

The various remarks about the 2002 4-album expectations made me wonder, because I personally think we have already 'had' quite a lot of music from the little Genius (I'm not talking this year or membership wise though). I was willing to take the bet & let the figures do the talking, and they do... yes
Calculated the average number of albums a year ever since an artist started out (official releases only, so not counting e.g. ONA, also excluding EP's like TMBGITW, Greatest Hits, live-stuff, double albums counted only once). Just picked a couple of artists, some because I like 'em, some because they might be some sort of competition in the 'productivity' area, some just for fun (MJ!)

ARTIST ALBUMS/YEAR

  • Prince 1,04
  • Santana 0,85
  • John Mellencamp 0,85
  • Queen 0,83
  • Rolling Stones 0,82
  • The Cure 0,74
  • McCartney/Beatles/Wings 0,68
  • Madonna 0,63
  • Eric Clapton 0,59
  • Toto 0,54
  • AC/DC 0,52
  • U2 0,50
  • Pink Floyd 0,49
  • Jean Michel Jarre 0,42
  • Michael Jackson 0,26

The result averages out at 0,65 albums a year. Anyone up for a calc per track (including those written for other artists) or average tracktime per year, concerts a year, peaple attending those concerts or any other stats??? wink List also proves that quality & quantity don't necessarily go together (except for the first & the last ones listed lol )

what would be interesting is to calculate van morrison and neil young. both are on major labels, and both have been fairly consistent with new records yearly. also both artists, like prince, maintain a high level of artistic quality and integrity.

Both Neil Young and Van Morrison are prolific to a fault, and yet they still have nothing on someone like Chick Corea who, at one point, was putting out four albums in one year.

I wonder why his label did not tell him he was "flooding his own market".
