As far as I'm aware, the last time Prince used 'bad'* language on an official studio disc was on The Truth and Crystal Ball. That project was 10 years ago.

Now, maybe celebrate is the wrong word. But even so, what is your view on this 10 year anniversary?

Of all the things I may criticise Prince's music on over the past 10 years, the lack of adult language is probably the least important. It neither adds or takes away from his recent output and records like The Rainbow Children and 3121 show that Prince can make great songs without using supposed bad language.

The only thing that has mattered to me is his censorship of his earlier material and that horrible thought that if he did agree to remasters of his previous releases, he may request that they'd be censored.

His re-wording of some of his songs when performed live over the last 10 years has been horrible. Prince has previously compared his songs to being like his children. But if I had a child and it had an ugly mole on its nose, I certainly wouldn't want to remove that mole because it would be part of that child that I loved. Likewise, I can't see why Prince would want to 'amend' his earlier art just because he now felt that it was slightly less than perfect. It is what it is. You wouldn't paint a better smile on the Mona Lisa.

And as has been said by better people than me (Stephen Fry, pretty much made this point), it's odd that people can use words like Torture, Rape, Murder and Suicide in polite company, but the word Fuck, despite being the reason that we're all here, is a big no-no.

Anyway, this was a choice between celebrating 10 years of Prince not swearing on disc or 10 years of New Power Soul. Just be grateful I didn't go for the latter

I don't mind if he's not swearing, but it is so annoying when he hides swears.

Instead of "We don't give a duck what you got on", how about "we don't give a damn what you got on"

If that's still too harsh, how about "We don't care at all what you got on"

There's another song I'm trying to recall where he kind of alludes he is about to say something naughty, and then stops at the last minute.

And yeah, the way he covers up the language in some of his songs his bothersome too.

But honestly, if he doesn't want to swear, fine. I just wish he wouldn't pretend to swear.

As an addendum, I think the last time he said "Shit" on CD was on The Vault, on the song Sarah.

I'm not sure if he said "ass" after U Make My Sunshine

im not sure, but doesnt he swear on slaughterhouse...if he doesnt, then it sure sounds like he has or will do any moment in some of his rap sections, has a vicious feel to some of it.
