prince could do no wrong during that era. it built from one interesting concept to another unique concept. prince always kept you on the edge of your seat about what he was going 2 do next. i know it sounds like that i'm stuck in the 80's. i feel that i'm stuck in reality as a long time fan of his. after 1988, he would NEVER HAVE A LONG CREATIVE stretch like that ever again. prince rarely had a filler whether it was an a side or a b-side. how does everyone feel about this objectively?

So you don't like his first album from 1978 ?

I think both Dirty Mind and Controversey are pretty weak albums. They do both have a few great songs but as a whole I could never enjoy them much. All the other albums from the period you mentioned are pretty much solid though.

I have to say that 78 wasn't a good Prince year.

Prince himself doesn't look fondly back on For You period because he didn't have full control over the project.

I would personally nudge the upper cap from 88 to 89.

I don't care what anyone says, diss away to your hearts content. For me Batman is a classic album. Scandalous is the only weak track on there, tedious and embarrassing. Otherwise it was a gem.

Think back to that period that soundtrack came out. When you first heard Batdance on the radio. You can't say you'd heard anything like that or Partyman at that time.

79 to 89 for me.

DM and Controversy were certainly the weakest of the period, Controversy weakest of all but still there wasn't much around at that time with that sound.

I think I disagree. I think Prince has had longer creative burst since 1988.
The music was just channelled into other projects.

I miss the days of the single, B--Side, 12" extended versions, but on reflection 1990 was in some ways when the music industry was changing.
Less singles so less B-sides.

Plus Prince's CDs were getting longer and longer so if there was a B-side available Prince probably used it on an album instead of relegating it to a B-side.
