I think the blue light, in this case, is a nostalgic reference to the "blue light in the basement" - when teenagers would, at a party, have a blue light on so the lights could be low (for slow dancing and making out), but still on. (A lot of parents would freak if the lights were turned off.) To mirror my troubles earlier in this thread, I think it's also a veiled reference to the age difference between Prince and his lady. He's old enough to remember the blue light - she isn't. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. | |
