One of my favorite songs on the....you know..."symbol" album. lol And one of the few times I heard Prince attempt a roots Reggae style.

Well, I can only tell you what I think it means.

I think the blue light, in this case, is a nostalgic reference to the "blue light in the basement" - when teenagers would, at a party, have a blue light on so the lights could be low (for slow dancing and making out), but still on. (A lot of parents would freak if the lights were turned off.)

To mirror my troubles earlier in this thread, I think it's also a veiled reference to the age difference between Prince and his lady. He's old enough to remember the blue light - she isn't. lol
