Begging Woman? And Appreciation!

At the 16th September aftershow last year Prince sang this song 'Begging woman' or 'Cock-eyed woman'. It was brilliant, hilarious! But does anyone know where this is from? I mean is it an old blues number of something? I can't find anything on it anywhere. He said "Y'all ain't never gonna be the same. I know, it happened to me" so I imagine it might be....

Anyway, one of the funniest things I've ever heard, I was crying with laughter...anyone else?

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Begging Woman was written by Cousin Joe Pleasant - but as far as I know, he only did the "begging" part. Prince may have expanded it to cock-eyed, three-handed, etc.

It's a combination of "Beggin' woman" by Cousin Joe from 1947, and "Three handed woman" by Louis Jordan from 1951.

Oh really? Just wondering if it might be on the Indigo Nights CD? I better not quote anymore in case it spoils it for people who weren't there wink

I was there too, in the first row! But not being a native English speaker, and with the music and all, I couldn't make out every word of it.
I'd love to see the full text of that song...

lol Yeah, that must have been tricky! He did do quite a lot of mumbling at the beginning that I couldn't understand a word of either!! Look up the 2 artists named above and you'll get MOST of the lyrics biggrin

Hi I was there that night with my boyf we were amazed to see him thought we would be the unlucky ones i loved this song too i listen to it sometimes and it just bring those amazing memories flooding back to me.

My boyf said it was so funny when the curtain went back and i saw him my jaw hit the floor and i froze in that position for a few minutes then went mad crying and everything.

This was the best night for me so intimate i still cant quite believe that i saw Prince at all. AMAZING

I know what you mean, I felt really lucky to be at an aftershow like that, and the music was just on another level to anything else I've ever heard, I felt like I was on a different planet! biggrin

Are you an English native speaker? If so, that's reassuring if you didn't understand everything too!
Anyway, thanks for the tip! wink
