it depends on your view of torture and brainwashing.

Some people here swear after fisrt listen they hated it, BUT after repeated listening they really liked it.

I SO tried that, but it didnt work for me.

give it another try, you never know!

It must be an acquired taste, like anchovies.

Reminds me of what a friend of mine says about oral sex, “once you get past the smell, you got it licked!”

It is arguably his best project in the 2000s, in my book.
If you don't understand some of the lyrics, focus on the music, the aural scenes he sets , and enjoy. smile

It is my fave album; musically it really grabs me.
I didn't really get into to it until after ONA. Hearing the songs live changed my perspective. music

It's the only one I still play from beginning to end without skipping anything. I don't necessarily like all the songs, but I like the way they flow.

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

I agree.

There are a few songs which I totally love,

but, as an album, it is one of the few Prince albums that have never mad it through from beginning to end without tracks getting skipped, or getting ejected!!!

nod Yes it is. And I probably will get in trouble for this, but I will say that MUSICALLY SPEAKING, it's his last great album since....shrug I don't know..."Emancipation maybe". Thematically speaking, well that's another story.

Help me here. Are u a Prince fan? So u actually paid money for a cd of an artist u admire. Listened to a couple of tracks, didnt like them. And then put it away for 3 yrs without listening to the whole thing at least once? Maybe its just me but I find that really weird. And why would u come here to ask if u should play it again? weird. Why wouldn't u save yourself the time and just throw the damn disc on and see if u like it yourself instead of asking permission from a bunch of strangers? weird. This has to be a joke or a 10-yr old right. weird.

I think it helps to be stoned!!! It did with me although I like it anyway.

Especially the sensual everafter. That once brought a lump to my throat and a

tear to my eye. Some of the best guitar I've ever heard him play.

Even my partner admits to liking the album but not a prince fan at all. He

likes the jazziness of it.

i agree

if you look past the vader voice and just enjoy what the musical aspects have to offer, it's seriously one of his bests...
listen to it on headphones, you'll hear instruments you probably would've missed before nod

Mine just arrived today! Had a rush listen, straight away I really liked the deep voice 'thing', I think this is why I like Prince SO much, he always pushes the boundaries and has the guts to do something different. Can't wait to hear it all properly.... razz

IMO it is one his of worst albums ever.

On the surface: the more organic, quasi-live approach of the music, might sound as a welcome change from the plastic production of New Power Soul and Rave, but when i listen further this album it lacks just as much soul as the two albums mentioned before.

I hear an artist brainwashing himself with religious dogma's, an insecure fellow who lets himself carry away by JW-crap. A person who feels like he can preach to 'us', while the things he is saying are utter nonsense.

I dont hear his heart in this music, the 'darth vader' voice is very annoying, the lyrics are really cringeworthy. and the music itself isn't reallly that refreshing (way too much seventies jazz-rock superficiality).

Together with New Power Soul, this album ranks as the worst Prince album ever.

Sorry, but you have been 80's prince-a-sized as the man grows his lyrics change plus how he sees the world and views things change this result in his lyrics changing New Power Soul & The Rainbow Children are far from his worst any orger who's not got these two CD's are missing some really great music..that what prince does and TRC delivers this in bucket loads wink cool

I find most of Prince stuff "Cringeworthy" that's why i like his stuff it's not simple not your average guy lyric or music he's always trying something! and he's talented because 99% of it works where other artist just fail and sound fake!
