On second thought, ADORE is not .... ?

Hello ...

Here's a little thread to get you talking. It has been very apparent during my time here on the org that one of P's most praised ballads is ADORE. I've been one to give it its credit as a great song, with his falsetto voice carrying it above the clouds and the music just sweetening the pie. It is a good song, one that is sorely missing from the most recent greatest hit packages, but it is not the best ballad, IMO, of the eighties our nineties, it has fallen to third on My list of Best Ballads. What is the best? SCANDALOUS ! ! ! WHY?

SCANDALOUS, is a more sensuous , scary, tough and heartfelt song, it is the kind of song I'd want played before, during and after sex, one I believe would have my woman in the mood, one that would have her know I'm serious about my work and would raise the expectations of the lovemaking episode. To me, ADORE is soft like sugar, it gives you a nice feeling that is easily forgotten minutes later, while SCANDALOUS is a double shot of liquor, something you have to prepare for, something that gives you a GREAT feeling that is not easily forgotten but can also be dangerous if you have too much. That's how I feel, ADORE is the angel on one side of your shoulder wanting you to do right while SCANDALOUS is that devil that wants you to go wild, lose you inhibitions and " go deeper " than you might have before, a hint of danger that gets your blood pressure up. What do you think? cool

Uncle...You mention that "Adore," is your third favorite, to "Scandalous," and what other song?

Both songs give you an emotion.. I guess it depends on the mood you choose to be in, like you have said.

I agree. I love Adore, but I would never f*** to it. I would (and have) to Scandalous (in all its incarnations). It's a very hot track.

Adore will prove to be timeless. Adore is no angel either. Adore suggests passion unnamed, untamed, throwing open my heart, my life, my soul. It's what every man wants to say to someone someday, including "well, maybe not the ride . . ." lol
I can't use that song at my wedding because it belongs to me and my ex (14 years). But even though we're exe's we are still best friends and the words "until the end of time, I'll be there for you . . ." still ring true.

Scandalous to me is certainly sensuous but not dangerous. Scandalous is "let's see if you can back up that walk and that talk." In Adore, one needs, in Scandalous, one wants. I think that is the essential difference and why Adore is and will prove to be timeless.
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I must have grown up in a completely different time and place than some Prince fans. Like I mention everytime this topic is posted on the org, "Adore" is and will always be the quintessential Prince song. "Adore" is the standard for all Prince songs, not just Prince's ballads.

"The Beautiful Ones" is better than both "Adore" and "Scandalous". And "Adore" blows "Scandalous" away.
the music knows what your motives are when you are making it

listen to The Replacements - its good for the soul

Adore is the best.....also I always considered Alway In My Hair a love song too. It shows (to me) a man that knows this girl is crazy for him in everyway and he's basically considering what he should do with all her adoration. No matter what she gonna be there for him and he knows it..it sort of shows the other persons view of love for him, even though it never says his feelings (mabey he'll marry her(?), mabey he wont(?)).

so anyway it's Adore, Always In My Hair, Nothing Compares To You.
