Both of Prince's parents are racially mixed, and he is of mainly African American, Native American and Italian descent and some French ancestry. Prince isn't very fair skinned from some kind of genetic fluke, he's very fair because of his recent mixed heritage.

Prince comes from a family that identifies as African American, which from watch and reading Prince interviews over the last 10+ year he identifies with on cultural and socially. I view Prince a Multiracial who is who culturally African American, but I sure some people on this board will disagree with me and say he's just African American because all people with Black blood are black as that appears how racially mixed people in the USA are considered, just think of the mixed race Barak Obama !

Yeah, I remember how white he was then too. Then when Emancipation came out he was suddenly back to his caramel complexion. To this day I don't know what happened there. It's kind of strange. I'm presuming it was deliberate, but I really don't know.

Yeah, I had noticed P was ghostly in appearence during this period. It's obviously not Prince's natural skin tone. All one has to do is to take one glance at his second album cover to see that. P has always wore "pancake batter" type makeup. Since his Controversy tour back in 81. On that tour, U could see clear as day that P's face was hella lighter than his neck. And when P took his shirt off, it was even more telling. He did this on the 1999 and Purple Rain tours. But during Controversy and the 1999 tours especially, P had this vampire look going. Very ghostly white face, jet black hair, black eyebrows and moustache and red lips. It looked like he just got through biting the shit out of Lisa or Jill backstage.

I am not a fan of Prince's music, as I've written here before, with the exception of a few songs. I only became a "fan" of his because of sexual attraction to him. Very frankly, I was only sexually attracted to him in the period of approximately 1983 to 1991 when his skin looked the whitest and his face and body looked the most feminine and beautiful. Prior to that, in his earlier videos and pictures, and after that, when he started losing weight and started getting darker, I lost attraction to him. I've never been attracted to other black men, but Prince was my exception but only because his skin was very light and his face and figure were feminine. I don't intend this to offend, but sexual attraction is very particular to each individual, and during that period (1983-1991) he correlated to my sexual attraction. When his appearance started changing, especially around the time of "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World", I started losing interest.

Skin and overall coloring change over time. I was born with blondish hair and have since elementary school had brown hair and somewhat darker skin coloring. Prince is much lighter skinned than the vast majority of Americans of African descent I've observed. That being written, during the period I referenced above, his skin coloring became noticeably lighter. Part of it may have been makeup and an overt effort to cater to a wider audience, but I think during that period his natural color was very much lighter. Look at the "Controversy", "Kiss" and "U Got the Look" videos, the "Computer Blue" sequence in "Purple Rain" and the "Lovesexy" album cover. Sure, some pictures show a lighter face resulting from makeup but his overall body was white in color. There was a snippet I recall from the "Nude" tour in Japan where he approaches the camera and runs away suddenly where he is wearing the cutaway outfit characteristic of that tour, where his torso and face are very white, and the contrast of his skin with that of the dark black bodyguard are very evident.

Black people come in all shades and hues. Light doesn't always mean white. It's obvious a lot of people would love to make Prince biracial and he isn't. Straight up black. My dad is light complexion and he's not biracial. There's other folks in the family tree, but we still black. Prince is as black as everyone else in that photo. Maybe not in skin tone, but that's it. This is the silliest topic, that can only matter to people in the USA.
