Love on 3121

I just can't get over the sheer brilliance of this track on the album 3121, I mean its perfectly sung, bouncy, poopy and has a killer drum machine track on it. Does anyone else feel the same way, or better yet know what drum machine is on the track. (You can hear it on Lolita 2)

I'm totally with y'all on this. Love is an incredible song and the drum machines used on this was perfect. This song along with Lolita and Black Sweat showed me that Prince hasn't forgotten how to do a dance song. I hope the next CD has a big amount of dance tracks on it. pray
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

One of my favorite tracks on 3121. Great beat...solid lyrics...nice hook. The acoustic version is terrific, too.

This song is one of the reasons I found Planet Earth so disappointing. It just reinforced (in my mind, anyway) that he can do so much better.

I love "Love".

The rhythm programming was TIGHT. Not sure where the drum sounds came from.

It was recorded in Prince's mobile studio, I believe.

BOUNCE...

i think this may be my favorite song from the 3121 album, but i'm torn as to whether i prefer the album version (which is a great dance track) or the acoustic version he posted on 3121.com for a minute last year. that was pretty inspired, too.

Serious? I thought it was nice, but I prefer the original. I like the idea of an acoustic version, but I always want to sing 3rd Eye's lyrics on top of Love's there... dunno why.

I actually hate that song. Not just mildy. I mean I HATE that song.

That and 'Get on the Boat' just grate at me.

But 3121 is actually a great party album. tight, concise, and easy to listen to , if not 'brilliant'. I would have been happy if Planet Earth was just a 3121 pt 2. lol

i think there are some cheesy touches in the song - the flute sounds aren't really necessary and i think those flourishes interfere with the simplicity of doing an acoustic version of the song - but when it works, man, it really WORKS. for me, anyway. i like how it almost goes into a bossa nova vibe, but doesn't stray too far from a classic prince sound of loose blues and funk. it sounds to my ears a couple of steps up from what he was trying to do on "the truth".

True, no accounting for taste. It touches you or is doesn't. To me, certain things in a song can turn me off a song on first listen. With this acoustic version it was, silly enough, the way he twangs his accent. It made me wanna fastforward.

But I must admit it was HELLA nice to get this song, in the days that b-sides and the highly illegal outtakes seem to have dissappeared, I will grab anything I can get, even this one.

i guess it just always excites me when he can show us that he's able to hear and interpret his music in other ways. it makes me feel like he's giving us a taste of rooms in his mental/creative house that he hasn't given us access to yet, for whatever silly reason.

I love and hate how he does what he wants. Peeps had been asking for a piano album and we got it, just not quite what we expected. I like how he always feels like he needs to step up to a challenge and LIVE the music, even though I cannot follow where he wants to go often. I hate that aspect of it, but love that he does anyways. He's a crafty motherfucker.

My favorite song on 3121, It has not the sound of old school Prince, but the feel. I think that was why 3121 was so great, most of the whole album had the Prince feel to it, but the sound reached out to today.

then came Planet Earth.... good album, but not as good as 3121.

I hope we get a new album this year..... don't know what is gonna happen yet.

Even though I think that rap part is unnecessary, this is one of the best tracks on 3121. It has that old school Prince flavor within the songwriting. And it's funky!
