same here. lol

it's weird, because i'm as big of a bowie freak as i am a prince freak, but people think it's cool that i'm a bowie fan. yet with prince, it's weird. go figure. shrug

That's because Bowie is cool because he sings about non-sentimental crap that blokes can relate to and feel comfortable with.

Versus Prince he sings about sex, shagging, women, sex, women, shagging, falling in love, not feeling good enough, believing in God, not believing in God, maybe I'm gay, maybe I'm straight, maybe I'm... blah, blah,blah...

Prince lets it all hang out and most people aren't comfortable with that..

They always give me that confused look and usually the first question they ask is, "Is Prince gay?" I now reply by saying, "Does it matter?" I mean, the man kicks ass, if he's gay than he's a kick ass gay man on guitar... woot! . Usually they get somewhat interested after that and start asking me questions about songs that I like. I believe deep down inside everybody likes at least one Prince song. nod

They simply cannot understand it, which is cool because I don't either. I sort of put it up there with other things I love. My wife, masturbation, poker, drinking, ice cream, football. It is a personal choice. I am not too interested in why I (or they) like something. Life is too short to worry about what others think. I think Prince said it best in the song I Rock, Therefore I Am. Go and listen to it now and I think/hope you will see what I mean.

I also know that whether they like Prince or not the next time they hear a Prince song for the rest of eternity they will think of me. I try to spread the gospel whenever I can.

woh hang on Bowie was always maybe maybe not!! I think its just that hes now considered a cool 70s english eccentric musician and its cool to like him.

Prince has always been more complex and some wont like this - but was a black guy dressing freaky and making freaky music.

I think some people subscribe to the whole bowie worship thing, i love bowie of yesteryear but not currently and somehow he is now acceptable to the masses, maybe cos hes been around so long they have been fed a diet of bowie songs on popular raduo. I cant speak for anywhere else but in the UK there has been a drought of Prince music, average jo-punter hasnt a clue what prince has been upto and can only vaguely remember the 80s and purple rain. Peeps literally glaze over when i talk about prince like hes a martian they know nothng about!!

Prince set himself apart from the beginning, bowie didnt he fell in with the whole glam rock experience so i guess blokes are happy to assign his wierdeties to another time (before their time)and feel cool with it.

Some of my mates are Prince Fans but the ones that don't like him just see this small guy who sings about sex a lot. They think he's weird so I say forget about what he looks like just and just listen to the music. It's narrow minded, but each to their own. It would be boring if we all liked the same music!

they all say one phrase
in reference to my musical choices

"I gueeeeess..."

but you know what?
let them keep guessing
and one day they'll BINGO wink
"be who you are and say what you feel
because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind."
