Prince vs Radiohead....Creep

imo Prince covered "Creep" at Coachella much better than Radiohead. Thoughts please. By the way does anyone know if Prince has covered "Creep" before the Coachella event.

Twilight

It is what finally made me decide to go ahead and book Dublin, so yeah I love Princes version. I like Radioheads too, I guess I like them both differently…go figure.
You lose yourself, you reappear. You suddenly find you got nothing to fear. Alone you stand with nobody near. When a trembling distant voice, unclear, startles your sleeping ears to hear, that somebody thinks they really found you.

its kind of hard to compare them because each version is so different. Prince obviously had better vocals and the guitar work was amazing so I give him major props for that, at the same time I love the way the front singer of Radiohead sings it live in that emotional tormented way, sort of capturing the true essence of the song. I like them both.

you people are insane and delusional. He basically stripped the song of all meaning. It was a nice little stunt but thats all. Its kinda like The Vault version of Old Friends v. the original.

The original version is an unintentional and hard-to-see rip off of Purple Rain. Prince is basically covering himself here.

More importantly, I still have NEVER heard the original Old Friends. I read that the original lyrics were about real-life friends, such as Morris Day doing cocaine.

What I wouldn't do to hear this. Can anyone help me???

Radiohead's original is way better.

I quite liked what Prince did musically, but changing the lyrics just made a nonsense of the song.

I think it is a pretty average tune to start with. radiohead has done a lot better than this tune.

Prince turned Creep into a proper anthem and into something pretty emotional. The guitar work on it is absolutely superb as well.

Imago

Prince's version is better, but not because of what he did to it, but despite what he did to it.

The song is sort of a teenage anx anthem of the early 90's--part of a wave of the bands that offered the death nail to the arena glam rock mindless drivel at the time. For all of radiohead's great tunes, this was not one of them. Prince did a better job--the only problem is that he changed the nature of the song significantly enough that he might as well just have written another song in the same key.

It would be like taking Billy Holliday's Strange Fruit and turning it into a feel good tune about racial equality--sure he could probably rock it. But it's no longer the same song really.

What I wouldn't give to hear him remake Peter Murphy's I'll fall with your knife mushy
.

heart

Finally, sense!

Creep in Prince's version sounds like a lame version of Purple Rain, which in itself is already a tired song.

Prince's choice of Radiohead songs just means he is as shallow as his music since the Rainbow Children.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
