He donated something like 2k to Rudy Boswitch (a MN Republican senator) during his reelection campaign in 1990(?). I don't think Prince actually knew who the guy was. I think Boswitch just hit him up for a donation as a fellow Minnesotan. Prince took some of shit for it at the time but most people concluded that it was probably an accident on Prince's part and that he didn't actually know that Boswitch was republican.

If memory serves...Boswitch ran into Prince or Prince's people in Cali and introduced himself as a Minnesotan running for reelection. I think Prince just had his people cut him a check to make him go away without giving it much thought. I believe even Prince's publicist said it was an accident of sorts.
Some people spray painted "Doves Cry 4 Boswitch" on Paisley Park as a protest to Prince's donation.

Wow, that´s interesting. All these years I´ve been thinking that the Boswitch donation had something to do with property tax laws and that Prince, as a resident of Chanhassen , somehow benefitted from that donation but I guess that info was just gossip.

By the way, didn´t he also give a concert at Paisley Park in 1995 for a Democrat?
I think Prince´s political views are everchanging, he´s a wild mix of a liberal, conservative, libertin, hippy and religiously conservative person.Remember that Ronald Reagan remark he made in the early 80s and his quite conservative patriotism from the mid80s to the mid 90s, which only changed in recent years ( after the Gold Experience days).

The Reagan quote is always taken out of context. In an interview (1980) he sarcastically talked about Americans liking Reagan because he had "bigger balls" and projected militarism and strength. P has always been anti-war and he viewed Reagan as the opposite.

He responded to this misinterpretation in Paisley Park when he sang, "whoever said elephants were stronger than mules."

It's interesting that since the misquote P has never talked specifically about electoral politics and prefers to comment on bigger themes like ideology.

Some people also suspected that Prince maybe mistook Rudy Boswitch for the "other Rudy" as in Rudy Perpich - a long time MN democrat who was also running for reelection (governor).

I don't remember Prince holding a dem fund raising concert in 1995 at PP...

But I think Prince's comments at Coachella about being "sick of debates" and "ready for a new golden era" speak to his current political views.

It's quite possible that he's neither a Republican nor a Democrat. You don't necessarily have to be one or the other.

Personally, I think Prince's political views as of late lean more to the left, but I get the feeling his views on some issues would align with the right wing.

I know quite a few folks who are VERY politically active and aware but don't swear allegiance to either party. Their political views don't fit the mold of either the left or the right: they are what they are. People like that usually let their intuition guide them, and they generally root for whomever they feel is the best overall candidate for office.

I´m familiar with that lyric but I never knew that it was some sort of response to that misinterpretation.
Thanks for the info
