I think he was already involved with charities before the troll came to work for him.

L4OA came into being long before Mani was involved with Prince. He may have been married to Mayte at the time (not positive of that though and not sure that Mayte would have been instrumental in the development of L4OA). There were online meetings with fans from the aol chat days in discussing the development of L4OA, and in fact I believe that is where he established a working relationship with Kathy (who managed L4OA for awhile) and Sam (web designer). I know that L4OA still donates monies to charities that are of interest to Prince today, and also for awhile would generate food can drives or coat drives at Prince concerts to give to local charities in whatever city Prince was having a concert at.
To me, there is so much more that L4OA could do at this time. For instance, establishing a database of volunteers that non-profits could access to find someone who would fit their organization when they are in need of volunteers, establishing food pantries/clothing closets in major cities (and not so major cities) around the globe to aid others, establishing a database of non-profits that people could access to find aid in whatever area they need aid. But it has become more of a donation assisted charity, in which they donate money to charities. I'm not even sure at this time how they are marketing for receiving donations from others in order to give donations to other charitable organizations. But L4OA still does a lot of good by giving donations to other charities. I would just love to see it develop more into a more identifiable non-profit organization and see it marketed in a way that those that are truly in need of love 4 one another, would receive the help they need. But then again, that just may be the social worker in me coming out.

Are you waiting for someone to beg? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Actually, AtenO would definitely know what she's talking about; though, there are really a lot of different views involved as well -- who saw, who said, who did what. As far as I know, Prince was done with L4OA before the release of NPS and hasn't done anything with it himself since then. It was because of fans that it became a forum at NPGMC, and I'm not sure exactly what was behind it being mentioned again in the months before the closing of 3121.com. I could only guess, but you might not like what I have to say. [Edited 5/11/08 17:31pm]
