All my dreams

Who loves this forgotten gem? I certainly do.
I love the naïve lyrics, the cabaret-like sound, the bizarre bridge and the epic finale. One of the best Prince/Wendy&Lisa songs!

Great song indeed!

In the period of 1985 / 1986 he was recording quite a bit of these strange, often suite-like but very charming songs, with jazz-elements and weird sound-effects: All my dreams, Crystal Ball, Theres other here with us, to name a few.

A shame those songs were never officially released, because they are among his strongest material i think.
I know Crystal Ball was finally released on the Crystal Ball-set, but that is an edited IMO lesser version of the original. He did cut out most of Wendy and Lisa's vocals and some orchestral parts by Clare Fisher. A pity.

Anyone knows who plays bass on In all my dreams? I mean, is it really Brownmark, because i have never heard him play so fluently.

Well, it's edited, but it's the version that was to be on the original Crystal Ball album, so the editing is period, not modern.

Like a lot of circulating out-takes, they are only one version of several - So if the version that eventually gets released is different to the one we are familiar with, we tend to think Prince has been too trigger happy with the studio scissors. Crucial is another example that springs to mind.

There is the other end of the spectrum like Movie Star where he added the Jam Of The Year intro, which I feel is completely inappropriate.

There's a copy of an itinery of recording dates and personel from: 16th of Dec 1985 upto 15th Jan 1987 in the summer edition of Uptown Magazine 1998

unfortunately In All my Dreams isn't one of tunes listed - so presumably it was recorded before Dec 1985...if anyone has the spring magazine, it may be in there

What i did notice though was on the 9th of Feb 1986 Prince is supposed to have recorded a two hour duet with his dad at sunset sound studios...damn i'd like to hear that!

Thanks for that information Nouveau Dance. I have never heard the song as it was 'supposed' to sound on the original Crystal Ball album, so i assumed he did edit it in the mid-nineties.

My first "copy" of the Black Album had the songlist that was eventually released but was folowed by All My Dreams & the original recording of Old Friends 4 Sale.
Since at the time I got it, I didn't generally know any hardcore fans, I thought this was how the actual album was set up,
which for me, made it, in my mind, a masterpiece.
All My Dreams was the song that I listened to the most. It was a wonderfully trippy & wierd ride.

I prefer the longer 'purple underground' version too.

love it. i really wish there'd been a Dream Factory album with all of that top-notch Revolution material before he started replacing it all with solo stuff that would eventually turn into Crystal Ball/SOTT. this would have been an awesome album closer. or opener?

unremarkable

U're small but very strong
U move like a cat: quickly but gentle
So insane
He caressed her in her eyes and licked her abdomen
She shivered with delight
Over and over she nibbled his ear
U'd think it was wrong 2 have so much fun
He held her tightly until it almost hurt
But his hips, they moved so slowly
She wanted 2 stop breathing
U can feel every curve of her womanhood
U can see every thought in his brain
A submarine slowly moves through the virgin sea
Oh so slowly
She wants 2 stop breathing
U... U can feel every curve
Lisa, I'm gonna give U the brush and U're gonna paint the side of the train
She squeezes tighter as the submarine goes deeper in depth
Into the unnavigated territory
A smile, ever so slight, appears on his face as she starts 2 cry
Until they come, 2gether, slowly
They wish 4 somethin', as if they could see a parallel future in the sea
They do not speak
They only stare out the moment in time
Marry me 2day and 2night we'll make love until the world stops turning
(I'm dreaming of a world)
(Wherein there shines the sun)
(Wherein there lay the stars)
(Wherein there lie the stones)
Gentle, but quickly
