Prince and Marvin Gaye I saw a documentary on PBS on Marvin Gaye last night. Since Prince use to go with his daughter Nona, have you ever heard Prince say anything about Marvin? I also that he was one of Prince's mentors. What reminde me of Prince was how Marvin was always torn between his sexuality and his spirituality.

I remember reading once that Marvin hated Prince and thought he was a cross-dresser like Marvin's father was known to be.

Damn-I hope that's not true. I believe that Prince did admire him. I mean listening to some of Prince's more sexual songs does remind you alot of Marvin and I think that you're right on point with the sexual/spiritual thing.

I read in a biography about Marvin that he didn't care for Prince (especially after he hit it big with "I Wanna Be Your Lover". A lot of the reviewers at the time were referring to Prince as a new sex symbol. As many of you know, Marvin was referred to as the Prince of Motown and was considered to be one of the sexiest black men in the business at that time. He kind of felt that Prince stole some of his thunder. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Funky Space Reincarnation is a phenomenol(sp?) tune. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Here My Dear is a true Masterpiece. It gets overlooked by so many, but it is a true love story that ends in tragedy. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

It seems Marvin entire life was tragic and he and Marvin had a lot in common with their stubborness in their musical ambition, the 2 wives and divorces and in the end Marvin even appeared onstage in nothing but a pair of black underwear just like the ones Prince use to wear back in the day.Marvin's middle name is .Pentz which sounds like Prince. It kinda spooked me when I saw that [Edited 5/8/08 13:16pm]

I have always loved 'Is That Enough?', even though it's so self-indulgent. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Yeah. Reminds me of that old Marlon Brando movie 'One eyed Jacks" where Marlon gets even with an enemy by getting his daughter to fall in love with him, then knocks her up and leaves her. COLD.

That's kinda sick....considering Marvin died so tragically (and unexpectidely). Especially since he was on the comeback trail and P was at the highest peak of his career. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I have always loved 'Is That Enough?', even though it's so self-indulgent. Good choice there. Also, 'Time to Get It Together' is also great from that album. Perhaps even his best song IMO

A keyboard player friend actually thought in "When Doves Cry" Prince was saying "You and Marvin Gaye in a kiss.".
At that year when the song came out Marvin Gaye had passed and I guess it seemed more eerie than it was. Marvin also thought Jermaine Jackson was being "groomed" to take his place as the so-called Prince of Motown. Folks, Berry wasn't sharing copyrights/publishing or stock so their WAS no prince of Motown. I DO see some similarities that I've never even notice in their creative and performance styles that I've never even noticed before.
