does prince suprise you sometimes on guitar prince have his style on guitar that we can recognise but does prince suprise you sometimes with something he played on guitar but you didn't think he could or he would play?
for example prince suprised me with his guitar solo on strollin' from budokan 2002 one nite alone tour. prince usualy plays jazzy oriented licks when he plays jazz influanced music but the stuff he played that night on strollin' it was true jazz solo resembling george benson. he also sprised me on indigo 28 08 2007 aftershow.i knew prince is great guitar player. i have carefully to whole recording and prince played virtuoso rock guitar. he played with fast support by cora on drums and josh on bass and he played agressive fast blues rock solos that can put some legendary power trio bands to shame. and he didn't loose a point, every single phrase ,every single note.

There's been a couple of times when Princey has surpised me on the guitar:
Anytime in the early days when he licked and/or molested it. And the best guitar solo I've heard is the one in "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad". I remember just being mesmerized and in love with iton the record. Live is even better. And anytime he breaks into the solo from Purple Rain--cliche I know, but classic--just the way he emotes, and wags his head and sucks on his lips and jumps around with the guitar--the man is feeling the funk. I love a Man who:
Wears More Make Up Than Me. Wears Four Inch Stilleto Boots. Changes His Name To An Unpronouncable Symbol. Who Changes His Name Back From An Unpronouncable Symbol. Oh And Most Importantly, Who Is Sexy Little Drop Of Butterscotch

To be honest, a long time ago, I didn't really think he was a great guitarist. Not that he was bad, just not a GREAT guitarist.
That changed when I got..some...boot-er-stuff... Alot of live material surprises me because he can will just lay something OUT. And I don't expect that from him. And, its a strange thing about P, he seems like he can play guitar better than God...but doesn't. Not often anyway. Does that make sense. Anyway, another thing I think that Prince has a very pretty kinda flowy style of playing, probably mostly like Santana. So when he busts out some straight up rock that surprises me as well. Theres a particular AfterShow from London last year but I forget the date. People refer to it as a mostly rock set.

I am never surprised that he can still stun me in a live performance on guitar - because he always has. [Edited 5/13/08 18:47pm]

Talkin about the song 'guitar' for a mo, he did surprise me at the 02 with that song as live it was so much better, i still had nightmarish visions of legs as guitars but even so he won through with his playing and thankfully for the most part the evil video has semi-vanished from my mind to be replaced with a much better memory of the live version! walk with crooked shoes www.myspace/syblepurplelishous

I always loved him on guitar, but the aftershows at the Indigo left me gobsmacked.
And completely gave me goosebumps.

His versatility on the guitar is brilliant.
I love watching him live, those fingers just moving so easily and those funk faces, drives a girl insane. Up close and personal at the Indigo gave me goose bumps more than once oh mama I wish I could resist ...

No offense but any guitarist can probalby do that. Prince is amazing, but that's not the reason.... Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

For the last 24 years, I have attended tens of his concerts and aftershows and I just have to say he gets better on the guitar everytime.
He was so good in the last two tours and aftershows that I saw him for the first time more as a proper great guitar hero than as the great stage performer he is.

the 2nd solo on "Joy in Repetition" on the ONA Live cd set-towards the end of that solo he did this incredible lick which just frankly blew me away!!!It seemingly came out of nowhere, and you could tell that he was really into it.

He is the master at his guitar
Just listen to Just My Imagination from the Fine Line Cafe performance and the same song from that after show party from 88
