So to UPTOWN lets try tobe a little more positive and a little less pretentious. Anyone agree?.
no... hell no smile

you want positivity (aka his version of "the truth"), go to his website and save $7.

you want an unbiased telling of how it really is, subscribe to/read uptown.

But isn't 'Uptown' not just 'Uptowns' 'Truth'. Just because it appears in 'Uptown' does that in itself lend it authority?.

'Uptown' is in no way unbiased. No writer or contributor ever is. It is all personal opinion.

yep, pretty much. nod I still dig the mag, though. I just toss out what I dont agree with and enjoy the rest.

I loved the magazine 5 years ago, since I have a computer I can now get the latest Prince news instantly instead of driving 45 min. to buy it.
Since the lawsuit Uptown has not given unbiased reporting on Prince's music.I do agree with some of the editorals. However, on a musical level, I think that they have gotten personal in regards to the music. They do not have the insider info that they once had & they are not getting the kickbacks on the bootlegs anymore so they are pissed.

I think if you read both then the "reader/fan" will be able to form a better opinion of the music.

I wonder why you folks buy a mag like this (other than the studio recording infromation they supply)?

Why buy Uptown anyway (if you know that Prince has "-ucked-up")? It seems that you have more insight than they do. Eh?

there really shouldn't be an "Uptown" magazine based on his career if he's done.

Is Prince your president?

I mean...damn..

Forget it... Now matter how many psycho-obsessive mags you read that agrees with your opinion, Prince still isn't going to do what you want him to.

It's like the idol and history of "Prince" is a "Soap Opera" for you folks.

You are living vicariously through Prince Rogers Nelson.

Why are you hurting yourselves with this contradiction and hypocrisy?

The folks at Uptown are just angry because he checked them.

Bottom Line:

If Prince was still the freak he used to be...Folks would be saying that he's too old.

He's a married man.

He's matured.

They are theives! They are not former Prince associates. They are people who've found a niche audience of angry self-hating "Prince Obsessives" to manipulate.

The mag is called Uptown (Minneapolis)! I doubt they even support any new artists from Minnesota.

If his career is over, so is the "Gravytrain"...

The gossip is over...

The Relationships are gone..

The rivalries have dissolved..

The only thing a mag like "Uptown" can do (to save their existence) is to promote the flames of "self-hatred and angst" from a bunch of "Net-junkies" and Wannebes!

Prince was doing their readers a favor by attacking Uptown.

Damn! That was the deepest SHIT!

Don't you have a case to attend to?

I see that you have yet to sell your computer (and the rest of your bootlegs) to pay for your legal fees...

I don't know... Maybe you its more like a couple of thieves defending a group of thieves with a mag..

Why are you agreeing with yourself... You know you cannot take your "multiple personality" to court with you.

Fact 1) I have scanned through Uptown once..(I was actually exited to see one before...)

Fact 2) I post less than you..(My eyes couldn't take all of the reading and posting..neither could my butt)

[If posting made you the money Uptown makes, you wouldn't have to worry about paying that $100,000...]

Fact 3) I have a bit more rational outlook on Prince topics. I'm not promoting myself through Prince for profit while attacking his every move.

Fact 4) Prince's lawyers aren't suggesting I'm a "no-life leech who bootlegs for a living"...(And still return to his fansite)

Fact 5) I'm not promoting negative garbage for you "challenged" individuals for money. If you want me to believe that Uptown is not making a profit, you are sick.. I could start a mag and claim that I am an authority on Prince, but I'm not. He is! (Right or wrong)

It's nice to know they free internet access at your shelter...

You'll be working for Paisley for free to pay for your fines...This is your dream.. Prince acknowledged your existence by suing you...This is all you people want to experience (really).. If he takes a suggestion or sues you.

You and "Plastic Jam" will harrass Prince until he acknowledges your existence. That's why it seems that anything he does is poison to you (yet you still remain).. There must be some communication to validate your existence.

I hope he doesn't sue you, so that you won't have the pleasure of staring at him in court..[hahaha]

I wonder if Me'shell warned Prince about you at The ONA-Live Listening Party? All of your troubles seem to start after this date...Hmmm..

The Secret Psycho Fans go public..

On the subject of the Lankford/Prince debate, NdegéOcello says, “Lankford is a huge Prince fan, who was simply promoting his music. His links to downloads would only encourage someone to buy Prince’s music, not detract from sales.” -- The City Collegian, October 30, 2002

--->Thanks. This is fun. Its all fun (for me at least).

Although I do not agree with all of what Prince does, he is not "The Devil".

I've waited awhile for the "irrationals" and "hipocrites" to have their say...

Most of their arguements do not make sense to me..

There is no "fan magazine" of an artist that is not controlled by the artists' company (that I know of).

If there are some (that are listing bootlegs), they have yet to be shut down..

These mags should be a hobby to their creators..

They really want Prince to change for them. They want to say that he acknowledges their existence by listening to their rage.

Believe me. I'm laughing too..*smack!*

Did you cry to Me'shell for that quote?

I doubt Prince would not have attacked you if you weren't so negative..

Answer this question:

Why do you boot (or link bootleg sites) of the man's live concerts? You seem to loathe him before The legal action began?

Ah well...

I guess one cannot expect integrity from you now...

Then kill this thread right now.

Actually, I have a lot of respect for what Per Nilsen and the UPTOWN staff do in order to keep everyone posted on Prince's musical output (although, having said that, I'm still eagerly awaiting UPTOWN's take on Prince's extensive and ever-changing wardrobe!)

Despite the odd glaring mistake or two (like fucking up the photo credits in DMSR, and NOT listing the Miles Davis New Year's Eve concert at Paisley alongside the other "circulating" videos - and where the hell are the 'Parade' rehearsals #3 listed ??? - ) I believe we should be hugely grateful for Per and his team.

Essence

I've read every copy published. As said above there is an aspect of elitism at Uptown, on occasion I have e-mailed the editor with concerns or to report inaccuracies, however, the good outweighs the bad overall with interviews like Chaz's recently making it all worthwhile.

The bottom line is results. UPTOWN has published for longer than anyone, and I mean ANYONE has about Prince. Longer than that buttlick mag CONTROVERSY, and much longer than NPG. Even Prince couldn't keep up the passion those blokes have for the man.

Not everything they write is gospel (the interpretations are sometimes laughable) but DAMN they get some inside info about dates, etc. I guarentee that no one out there could write a book about Prince without consulting previous issues of UPTOWN. I just wish Prince was doing something lately to deserve their continued attention.

Prince should be kissing their asses in thanx for reminding people that Prince was once the King.

AMEN!! Alot of people take Uptown for granted, but if it wasn't for them, there are SO MANY THINGS we wouldn't know about Prince and his music.Since 1992,they have provided us with invaluable information and very informative articles.I still read the old issues all the time.

Whatever.

They were offering ad's(paid or not I don't know?) to dealers who sold bootleg items. Now "kickback"may be to strong a word to use ,but payment was made to the magazines by people who SOLD/SELL bootlegs.

By some standards I would be considered an ass kisser.Sheep?
No.But it was funny!

On a more serious note, how will any one who is a Prince supporter actually know what is good Prince music?
Anything that he releases will be dissed by the mainstream music media & so called fans who have not grown past eras of his music. The best way to judge is to listen without visiting sites to have someone tell you what is good or not.
