Prince the musical auteur is becoming an author. 21 Nights, a photographic essay that offers "a rare glimpse into the life, lyrics, and mystique" of the maker of such hits as 1999 and Purple Rain, will be published worldwide this year, according to Atria Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. The book, his first, is based on Prince's 21 sold-out concerts in as many nights at London's O2 Arena in 2007. "Juxtaposing his duelling worlds of music and solitude, it (21 Nights) will incorporate Prince's evocative poetry and lyrics to new songs and other selections, and 124 full-colour, sumptuous, never-before-published images by celebrated photographer Randee St Nicholas," Atria announced yesterday. 21 Nights will include a CD of after-hours jams, Indigo Nights, unavailable from any other outlet. There's a thread about this already: http://prince.org/msg/7/267816 **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

NPS at LEAST had "the one" and "come on" to its credit, and while i know they're not everyone's cup of tea, i'm also quite fond of "wasted kisses" and "mad sex". in fact, the more i think about it, i love mad sex. the more mad sex, the better I am. i'm all about the mad sex. i can't think of one song from PE that redeems it...there are a few that are more tolerable than the rest of the songs on the album, but prince can do better than "tolerable". plus, prince seemed to be having a good time promoting NPS, even if the results may have been at times odeous. the promotion of PE seemed really joyless and ramshackle (aside from 7/7/07, which i felt was more about the perfume than the new album). N.E.W.S is fine. you just gotta be in the right mood for it. i'll never turn down an instrumental prince album, sorry. you are referring to the song..right??...not..mad sex as an activity?

Oh dear, why must this underrated gem called "Planet Earth" be continuously berated? It's not a bad album, and I will defend to the death the importance of it. If people can't just look at it as a fun record that you shouldn't take too seriously, it might be more enjoyable. So there's less funk, so what? Prince isn't just a one-trick pony when it comes to music. He's a musician that plays at whatever style he likes. There might've been a couple of tunes that weren't so hot (All The Midnights, Mr. Goodnight), but even at his worst he can still turn something out pretty good and better than half the garbage you hear today. Last thing I'm gonna say is that if "Planet Earth" were created by, let's say, a completely new, unknown rising talent, it would probably win all kinds of awards. But being that it's Prince, I guess folks expected more. Oh yeah, and uh....I'm looking forward to whatever new stuff my main man is dropping later this year. So he didn't authorize the Hawaii book then? i guess the difference with this one is that it's being credited to prince and his photographer as the creators of the book. with the hawaii book and the sacrifice of victor books, they may have been considered prince "products", but he was considered to be the subject of those books and not the creator. that's my understanding anyway.

I don't get what's going on on UK Amazon. The original link still says Untitled by TBC and is available to pre-order. The later link with the 21 Nights title and now the picture is currently unavailable to order. So which one is it?

At least it's not defunct since they're adjusting the price. I think they have a policy that if you pre-order anything, if the price goes down you pay the lowest that they've displayed between the pre-order and release date.

HELL YEAH IT'S TIME!!! opening up the vaults and let the flood gates rain down.. i've been thinking about this cd of songs from indigo and prince did a LOT of covers during those shows. he has this problem of giving proper credit and paying out royalities 2 other artists, so what could possibly b on this cd. let the speculation begin.... man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

How widely available is this book/cd going to be?

DVD's are the way to go!!! Cd's and listening are so old and pasts its time. Watching a Concert DVD is a way to stay fresh and make allot of money.
Prince is always doing new things The last thing you can say is this guy is lazy and living off his past Every year to a year and a half there is something brand new!

That's not for certain. Cd's have been quite stable in recent years, while music dvd's had a boom a few years ago but have dropped drastically since! You won't find many new music dvd releases anymore. And I'm not really sorry. If I want music, I put on a record, not the tv!
