Do these count as P songs? Especially "Sister Fate". He didn't write or record this one.

he did write sister fate and if it wasn't for prince playing on the album you wouldn't have much more than sheila singing and playing percussion

as for the covers, i don't see why they can't be choosen if someone wants to. i mean if you had to choose the best elvis or aretha franklin songs you wouldn't have any that they wrote themselves. personally i'd stick to songs he did write, even if for other artists, seeing as he wrote so many songs. i was just telling someone today at work that he wrote manic monday, i feel for you and nothing compares 2 u and they didn't know that

According to ASCAP, Prince did not write "Sister Fate". It was Sheila. Now, it does list some of the other songs supposedly "written" by Sheila (The Glamorous Life, Koo Koo, etc.) under Prince's name as the songwriter....but not most of the Romance 1600 stuff. I'm not disputing it, just stating what's listed on ASCAP's site (which is usually pretty accurate).

What Did He Do?

Hello UPTOWN!

On Prince involvement in Sheila E's Romance 1600: Though on the sleeve of the album, Prince is only credited with vocals and instrumentation for the songs "Toy Box," "Love Bizarre," and "Yellow," I swear I hear his voice on the other songs as well (i.e. "Sister Fate," "Dear Michaelangelo," and "Merci For The Speed of A Mad Clown In Summer"). Did he in fact have more involvement in that album? And how much involvement did Prince have in the first Mazarati album? I know "100 MPH" was written for the Mazarati album, but "Stroke" and "I Guess It's All Over" sound like vintage Prince compositions.

Burl Harris, via Internet.

Prince's involvement in Romance 1600 was clarified in Per Nilsen's exhaustive article on Sheila E. in UPTOWN #20. Regardless of what the credits on the album say (or how the songs are registered at ASCAP), Prince did write all the songs on the album, barring "Merci For The Speed Of A Mad Clown In Summer," and he played most instruments and produced the album for Sheila. The album was recorded while on the Purple Rain tour, at studios in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Atlanta and Los Angeles (Sunset Sound). The only exception is "Merci For The Speed Of A Mad Clown In Summer," which Sheila composed and recorded with her own musicians after the Purple Rain tour. It was the last track added to the album.

Sister fate was written by Prince, he gave it to Sheila so people wouldn't think she had no talent. The other two are covers yes, but the rules were if Prince recorded it, it counts. Both songs are on emancipation.

if u dont accept sister fate, I nominate "A love bizarre" in its place, he wrote it and you can hear him sing on it.

The OP says this can include tracks recorded for other artists.

I took that at it's most liberal and included many, incluidng 'Strawberry Lover' since Prince had a hand in the lyrics.

ASCAP isn't always the most reliable source of info on Prince's recordings, especially when he has been so carefree in the past about who gets credit for what.

yeah, it's a fairly liberal choice, if prince wrote it or sung it then thats good enough. oh sheila by ready for the world has bugger all to do with prince though, even if it is a song about sheila e

prince wrote a lot more songs that he is officially credited for, or even registered at ascap. likewise elvis got credits on records he had nothing to do with writing as his manager told writers they could either have elvis record the song and get half the royalties of a lot of sales, or they could let someone else record the song and get all the royalties of less than half the sales (i think elvis is credited as writing 9 songs in total, none of which it's believed he had anything to do with writing)

Rediculous ! You can't come in here expecting rules to be changed for your sake when so many people have spent so much time on the lists already posted.

Think about it. The lists so far are mixed.

Official and Unofficial in the same lists as is.

Omni you can edit the list you posted if you wish to add some unofficial.

Was that written on a reflex or did you think before you wrote that ?

If you think Sheila is untalented then you are in a minority and you maybe should do some research.

Sister fate was written by Prince, he gave it to Sheila so people wouldn't think she had no talent.

Was that written on a reflex or did you think before you wrote that ?

If you think Sheila is untalented then you are in a minority and you maybe should do some research.

I'm Not saying Sheila is untalented, but a lot of her Prince era songs were co written by her or Prince, but like the Time and Vanity 6 Prince would let the artists have credit for them to make them look better. If anything Sheila was one of his most talented proteges, and Prince also masked his input lest Warners would accuse him of over releasing material. I love Sheila E so don't misquote me
17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince

Can we do separate lists for officially released and unreleased?

Rediculous ! You can't come in here expecting rules to be changed for your sake when so many people have spent so much time on the lists already posted.

Think about it. The lists so far are mixed.

Official and Unofficial in the same lists as is.

Omni you can edit the list you posted if you wish to add some unofficial.

Meanie. Lots of folks still haven't heard much unofficial so I'll leave it as it is.
