First, I'd like to thank the thread-starter

Interesting first question: Did we pick Prince or did he pick us?
Long ago, my dad picked Prince or rather he just picked up the idea of him when he saw the movie back in 1985 on HBO. We came across the movie, my dad picked out the channel... and after seeing the movie, I just let him slide for a while. Just never forgot the first impression

Either fate kept intervening (he was performing for shows I was already booked to watch b4 I knew he was gonna show up)... or I eventually gave in and decided to pick him, watched some of his videos. I know I picked this site, probably best movie I ever made

I think we're all pretty spoiled because he has so much music out there.

Someone made a comment about "org arm chair critics" that pick his work apart. I swear I don't do it in the way you're thinking of... where people pick something about to point out all the flaws. I go in-depth with what I write, I think because its my way of trying to match all the work that goes into each of the songs he's written. He wrote the song and I write down how it came off to me. And 95% of the time, it comes off really well.

It's not because I think he's perfect. But with a lot of his music, its easy to enjoy what he's written. People claim he's not as good as he used 2b. Fair enough. But that's your opinion and it shouldn't be used against people who still support his current musical direction.

Coming in so late, I knew I had a lot of music to get through. I still do, but it doesn't mean I'm building the ultimate album collection. I built (in fact, still building) the "perfect" Prince album collection for me, where his progression from album to album can be seen for the most part, I have the must-have's, and I own quality music, while trying to keep up with his current output. Except for 1-2 more albums, my collection can only grow outward with recent material and that's up 2 Prince.

I don't regret coming in so late because I consider myself lucky that I'm close to the end of the storyline (or rather halfway through, if he intends to write music for years 2 come)... it gives me the opportunity to look back over his work and see how far he'd come. Plus, there's really no bias. Like most will prefer Prince when they first got in2 him or w/e era they liked the best that they lived through. I take everything in2 account. People hate on his current output because they've experienced the "good stuff" firsthand. I can't hate on him current work because to me, its hard of the whole picture. Though not like it used 2b, I think of, say, Musicology, without comparing it to the likes of 1999. Doing the comparison is no good because 1999 is an 80's album (and I dig the 80's in general) and it makes Musicology look weak in comparison since 1999 is a classic.

I take each album on its own as each is its own experience of his thoughts/feelings at a given time in his life. Then I try to make the best of it as I can. Some its been easy and some its been (and still is) difficult. I get my feelings down and work through the albums just as my way of paying back Prince for writing so many wonderful works that have been an inspiration, sometimes a life-saver and so much more. His music is a reflection of what he's like inside. And I gotta say he's a really interesting person

And yes, he is the whole package and so much more. To me, he defines the word "musician" someone who takes good care of writing their music, dedicating their very lives to it and finding it in themselves to share it with the world in whatever media format you prefer.
Just think about it. He's a point now where he could easily stop releasing his works and writing music just for himself. He's got to be loaded, so he doesn't do it for the money. He does it for people like us that'll take a little time out of their busy schedules to listen to a musician who almost always churns out good music.
