I think the reason why Creep is still out there untouched is because Prince isn't the songwriter.

How do you all KNOW that he is doing himself a disservice with his internet interactions?

I am sure his actions are well-calculated and probably will benefit him in some way in the future. When he releases a live DVD maybe more people will purchase it because they can't get it for free online.

Or maybe he's taking a risk. Gambling on the fact that his actions may or may not help him. If it turns out he is right, then he wins. If he's wrong, then in the future he can just letitgo and everyone will forget all about it.

But you have no idea what his intentions are.

I think it is funny he is doing it. All you new-school kids are so spoiled, getting everything for free, that you can't stand it when it's taken away. Before the internet aquiring Prince material and videos was just the same as it is now with him "interfering with the internet".

What would really be great would be if all cell phones magically stopped working and people were forced to go without those wretched inventions. Now THAT would be funny.

Parents complain that their kids can't have cell phones in school in case of an emergency.... Mother Fukkaz what did they do in 1972 in schools during emergencies. They dealt with shit.

I think its called supply and demand. If something is free you devaluate it. If like gasoline, there is some sort of supply problems, and people want it, it’s automatically worth a lot more.

Recently I read a story where someone did a taste test with wine. They told the participants that the cheap wine was the most expensive, and vice versa, afterwards they were asked which one they liked the best, and all chose what they thought was the most expensive.

I don't think free music will work in any real economic sense, and will also devaluate the artists work. Free taste samples sure, but not like whole cake.
And yes people will always find a way no matter what it is to get something for free, but that's beside the point.

Prince making people look all over the net for it is cool and funny, and people will appreciate it more that way. Yes, if there is enough demand I’m sure they will release it.

It is quite amusing the whole taking down the audio, he likes to have a laugh at folk eh! Hes got such a twisted sense of humour, sometimes good and sometimes bad... music makes up for it though when it fails! Hes a person who makes his music, infuriating at times to fans and now Coachella goers who would like to re-live his gig... its still his decision to do what he wants. To many it doesn't make sense why and how he does stuff, its what makes him unique though. Hes not doing the same as everyone else. Maybe it'll work in his favour, I mostly doubt it will but I am interested to see everytime when he performs what hes got up his sleeve. The new track on Leno didn't grab me straight away, maybe it'll grow on me... Its nice to hear new stuff though. Can't wait for a new CD and many more gigs!

One more thing though that Dr Funkenberry stuff is so OTT like some of the 3121 posts, makes for a good laugh though. If Prince or his people have written some of that stuff I hope its tongue in cheek, nobody could love themselves that much... could they? Lol! I guess we all know the answer

violetblues - yep like your point about it being free making it worth less as a product.

Thing is will non-Prince fans understand his actions? Or just ignore it and think hes a nutter...? Then again in that case only the people who truly appreciate the music stick around.

I do like the fact that because of all this it gets Prince fans on here having these type of discussions. More interesting than most music forum discussions I bet!
