Princes finger in the the air.(symbol) I've noticed that all all of Princes whows after 2000 he put's his finger in the air. He walks off with his pinter pointed to the sky and walks off in a funny but cool walk. This is when he ends the show and officially walks offstage. Does anybody know just what this gesture means? Is it some kind of internationally recognized symbol. Working up a purple sweat.

you mean the 'wild sign'? He started doing that around 1994 - holding down his middle finger with his thumb so it was like the opposite of the 'up-yours' symbol. Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

Gotta be a God thing. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

He's gesturing to the folks in the cheap seats. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Well, he between his performances and costume changes, he probably has very little time for the call of nature, if you know what I mean. He's probably saying, "Pull my finger"....if you know what I mean.

He is pointing upward to remind people to praise Jehovah not him. Everything we have, including Prince's talent comes from God and he wants to make sure he (God) is recognized and thanked for that.
During one of the Musicology shows I went to, when he brought some people up on stage, one woman kneeled in front of and then started to bow further with both arms out as if she was worshiping Prince. Prince immediately pulled her up from the floor shaking his head and then pointed upward, showing there's only one being that is to be worshipped. Prince enjoys the compliments like we all do if we do something good but he is also knows who gave him those talents.

I have never seen Prince do this...however, I have heard that Prince is saying "I Love You." in sign language... "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

I like the wild sign, but once I saw Prince doing a performance and he screamed "one finger in the air y'all!" and the whole crowd was swirling thier fingers over thier head. My best friend and I were sitting on my couch doing it, until we realized it seemed a little silly to be doing it at home rather than at a concert. I love a Man who:

Prince does, everything else is speculation Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I'm glad Prince straightned her out, since we know he doesn't tolerate what she was doing. I don't blame him either. If I were a celebrity, I would feel the same way. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Agree, but you don't know what the woman's motives were. Perhaps she just wanted to see his reaction and was happy with it.

Her motives were strange, to be honest. I wouldn't even think of doing that in front of Prince, out of respect for him. That woman doing that just made herself look foolish, in my honest opinion. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.
