Are there any other official releases besides his actual albums which are essential listening?

I have all the offically released albums and DVDs. I have most of the side project albums too.

I was wondering if there was anything else which you would say was worth buying?

I've heard a lot of talking about The Scandalous Sex Suite. What is it and is it worth buying?

What else would you recommend?

If I were you, I'd try to get the Space Maxi-Single first. The acoustic version is great, and the Universal Love remix is AMAZING. It's listed as a remix of Space, but it really is its own song.

Aside from that, any of the maxi-singles from the 90s are really nice to have (N.P.G. Thieves In The Temple, Gett Off, Cream, 7, My Name Is Prince, Space, Letitgo, etc). The remixes are really good, and some have non-album tracks.

Then there's the soundtrack stuff ... Happy Feet and Bamboozled are a few of the more recent ones.

Oh, and he guest stars on No Doubt's "Rock Steady" album. He does a song called "Waiting Room" that's kinda cool.

Scandalous Sex Suit is essential just for 'Sex' - the suite itself isn't something I particularly listen to, rather boring.

The rest of the b-sides not on the Hits/B-Sides compilation, all the maxi singles the ones Se7en listed.

All the related artists stuff that only has a track or two by Prince, or hasn't got anything directly to do with him musically, just by association - There's a lot of good stuff here too.

I have the "Scandalous sex suite."
The Crime
The Passion
The Rapture...and I will throw it on...so it is playing and it opens with a talking script with Kim Basinger.

It's sexy...so I don't bother listening 2 it...I guess I have set it aside cuz' it makes me lonlier.

I love it though..

Gett Off Ep (Violet the organ grinder!)
Cream Ep
NewPowerGeneration long Ep (loveleft loveright, lubricated lady etc)
Space Ep (acoustic version)
Exodus Album (if that counts, some really cool P stuff on there)
I wish U heaven 1,2,3
...

You know what? There is too much to list. Just start gradually collecting. I recommend starting with his EP/Maxi cd stuff and work from there. There is so much material and almost all of it is as good as his album material.

Happy listening! U lucky devil, not to have heard it all yet!

cool eek cool biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin

By the title I thought side-project were the focus but everyone seems to mention singles. I'll be thick and say:

Jill Jones
Madhouse 8
Exodus
Family
The time

Actually singles are quite an interesting and overlooked topic on the org. The 90s are interesting because of the shift in focus on one b-side to a few different mixes. 90s singles:
Space (as mentioned, universal love!)
Letitgo (EXCELLENT)
Holy river (didn't care for the album version, love the outtakes for somebody's somebody)
greatest romance (adam&eve mix, too funky!)

But really, nothing is essential, just as long as you enjoy what you hear.

Get all the mixes you can get your hands on I have all of the above they are brilliant I also like the greatest romance remixes. you don't have to pay a fortune for them either. Go to amazon and sort by lowest price I got thieves in the temple and space for 1 penny.
