Albums that Grew on U

For me, I took a little while to warm to Parade and it soon became my favourite, or at least one of them.

But Lovesexy is the biggest grower. I thought I hated it at first, now it's been on repeat for the last few weeks lol. I've found that less accessible material that takes longer to catch your fancy always ends up more favorable. Something like PR has instant appeal, but it won't have that special impact if you overlisten to it.

ATWIAD, PARADE, SOTT, and LOVESEXY

All of them made me go confuse hmm hmmm at first.

But had me hooked by the third listening.

None in particular. I have always found Prince's work very accessible and my response to a particular album has not varied to any significant degree with time.

1999 (thought every track would be like the singles lol )
prince (it was too long! lol )
Come (I knew it had potential, but just took me a while b4 it made a big impact)
TGE (at times, it STILL has to grow on me razz )

and to a degree, Musicology as well.

I find that interesting. Not all of his music is exactly hooky and accessible. He doesn't always follow verse chorus structure and the long instrumental sequences must be off-putting to non-fans.

'Lovesexy' took me quite a while to get into - but that's probably due to the single track thing. Whenever I wanted to listen to 'I Wish U Heaven' it would frustrate the hell out of me having to hold down the skip button. lol Thank God a 'tracked' version was released. And don't get me started about when you'd try that on your discman and your finger would slip... pissed evillol

As much as I hate to say this, though, it took me years to appreciate '1999'. Near enough a decade. redface It just didn't click with me, for some reason. Then BAM! All its' charms were revealed. cloud9 Now, I think its' absolutely essential; but I'm quite glad it was a slow burner for me. nod

I can't say that any have grown on me. I've liked what I've liked and disliked what I've disliked pretty much from jump.

Prince -- I always dismissed this one for no good reason.

Dirty Mind -- I thought it sounded amateurish and was way too short.

Controversy -- The small amount of songs threw me off, and it felt somewhat lacking in terms of hooks.

Parade -- I used to think the first four tracks were a waste of time.

Batman -- I thought it was garbage.

Now I love all of these.
