Sounds familiar doesn't it? Anyway, anybody ever notice Lennon's picture in this scene? P also has a picture of Lennon's face in a statue in the center of Sign Of The Times album cover."

That is really reaching dude. The PR fits the story line of the moving. Since P was causing sorrow and paid by smacking Appolina around.

Nah, the director said that everything u saw was put up by the set designer. They didn't want anything from First Ave, such as pictures, advertisements, etc. The dressing rooms, the hallway, were either built or totally redocorated. In many cases, sets were built. So the Lennon picture was definately added in the dressing room.

So, the pictorial reference to John may have been coincidental or was it. hmm

It wasn't. The set designers placed that poster of Lennon there.

So in essence, the set designers were given instructions by someone other than the director to place the poster there. thumbs up!

Than avoid the positivity by ignoring the positive post and not commenting. eek

You were doing so well for a few words. The correct way to start your second sentence would be the word "Then."

Nobody thinks that the Beatles had no influence on Prince. (ATWIAD is more than enough evidence.

Umm..please speak for yourself when you say "Nobody" I can speak for myself thanks!

ATWIAD is more than enough evidence.

WTF! Where did you get that at? here is a link you might wanna read;

http://www.housequake.com...orldinaday

"Whereas the US reviews were predominantly positive, most British critics seemed unimpressed, accusing Prince of blatantly copying The Beatles as well as other groups of the psychedelic era. Much like “Ronnie, Talk To Russia” on Controversy, “America” was widely criticised as being simplistically anti-Communist."

Lisa's brother wrote the majority of the album. So really he had NOTHING to do with copying anyone at that point.

Ya'll know the scene where Fink and Mark are walking out of the dressing room and Bobby is standing at the door and he asks Prince "What difference does it make man? We're still a band right?" If u have the film on dvd, pause it at 28:22. At the right of Bobby, u will see a picture of John Lennon hanging on the wall. Gives new meaning to P's llyric in the song Purple Rain. Which he lifted from a lyric of John Lennon's "Woman"

Holy crap BG, that picture of John Lennon on the wall is almost impossible to see unless you pause. I've seen Purple Rain 50 billion times and never caught that.
Thanks for pointing that out...I had also never noticed the pic of John Lennon on the cover of SOTT, very cool. I'm a big fan of Prince AND Lennon so I appreciate you pointing that out.

Yep. Check out the cover...Lennon's there. His face actually looks like it's part of a tombstone. The flowers around the drums are very similar in theme to the cover of Sgt. Pepper. Same concept. The bass drum and of course the flowers that spell out "Beatles".

The tombstone with Lennon's face in it on Signs also ties in with the rumour that on the cover of Sgt Pepper, everyone is standing over a grave. Paul's grave actually. U know, the famous Paul Is Dead rumour and John saying "I Buried Paul" at the end of Strawberry Fields Forever. But I don't want to get off track.

Actually if you listen to studio bootlegs, and the anthology... Lennon is saying "Cranberry Sauce"... but it can sound like "Paul is Dead"

Snap

in my opinion, prince has rewritten lennon's "imagine" a dozen different times now
the ideals of the lyrics pop up a trillion time in prince's concert speeches
what's this new alchemic golden age about anyway that he speaks of
relatively speaking, to accept it, one must be blind to the Truth
that's all i'm saying

Yeah, I had first noticed it when the film was released on VHS. That was in late 84, or early 85. I noticed it then. I didn't freeze it or anything. I just happen to see a picture of someone hanging on the wall and so I went back and saw that it was Lennon. I just never thought about asking about it on here untill a few days ago.

And anyway, toss pots aside, I noticed that scene, although I'd never looked that closely at the SOTT album cover. The Beatles can be heard in Prince's music at least as far back as a song like When You Were Mine.

Actually, P has said that he wrote When You Were Mine the night John was murdered.

When did he say that? Dirty Mind hit shelves October 8, 1980...two months to the day before Lennon was murdered.

Like many things in this thread, he never said it, intended it or thought it, but when the word 'cult' appears in a thread such as this, it's not only fitting, but defines the parameters of the conversation.

Was Prince aware of John Lennon and The Beatles? Of course he was, anyone in the west who wasn't aware of them was either senile or a hermit. Did the Beatles have an overt influence on his music until Wendy and Lisa and David Coleman turned him onto their music? No. This is documented somewhere, I don't have the source in my memory, but that's where I've taken the statement from, not my flighty opinion of desire.

As has been pointed out time and time again, he didn't even know While My Guitar Gently weeps before the Rock and Rock HOF performance.

Has anyone else noticed the negative image of Joni Mitchell and the purple unicorn thirty one minutes and twenty one seconds into Under The Cherry Moon? She's wearing John Lennon glasses and drinking a glass of soy milk. You just know Prince had the set designer put that there for a reason.
No hard feelings.
