They didn't want anything from First Ave, such as pictures, advertisements, etc. The dressing rooms, the hallway, were either built or totally redocorated. In many cases, sets were built. So the Lennon picture was definately added in the dressing room. So, the pictorial reference to John may have been coincidental or was it. It wasn't. The set designers placed that poster of Lennon there. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

The flowers around the drums are very similar in theme to the cover of Sgt. Pepper. Same concept. The bass drum and of course the flowers that spell out "Beatles". The tombstone with Lennon's face in it on Signs also ties in with the rumour that on the cover of Sgt Pepper, everyone is standing over a grave. Paul's grave actually. U know, the famous Paul Is Dead rumour and John saying "I Buried Paul" at the end of Strawberry Fields Forever. But I don't want to get off track. Actually if you listen to studio bootlegs, and the anthology... Lennon is saying "Cranberry Sauce"... but it can sound like "Paul is Dead" My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

in my opinion, prince has rewritten lennon's "imagine" a dozen different times now
the ideals of the lyrics pop up a trillion time in prince's concert speeches what's this new alchemic golden age about anyway that he speaks of relatively speaking, to accept it, one must be blind to the Truth that's all i'm saying

Yeah, I had first noticed it when the film was released on VHS. That was in late 84, or early 85. I noticed it then. I didn't freeze it or anything. I just happen to see a picture of someone hanging on the wall and so I went back and saw that it was Lennon. I just never thought about asking about it on here untill a few days ago. Actually, P has said that he wrote When You Were Mine the night John was murdered. When did he say that? Dirty Mind hit shelves October 8, 1980...two months to the day before Lennon was murdered.

Dirty Mind hit shelves October 8, 1980...two months to the day before Lennon was murdered. Like many things in this thread, he never said it, intended it or thought it, but when the word 'cult' appears in a thread such as this, it's not only fitting, but defines the parameters of the conversation. Was Prince aware of John Lennon and The Beatles? Of course he was, anyone in the west who wasn't aware of them was either senile or a hermit. Did the Beatles have an overt influence on his music until Wendy and Lisa and David Coleman turned him onto their music? No. This is documented somewhere, I don't have the source in my memory, but that's where I've taken the statement from, not my flighty opinion of desire. As has been pointed out time and time again, he didn't even know While My Guitar Gently weeps before the Rock and Rock HOF performance. Has anyone else noticed the negative image of Joni Mitchell and the purple unicorn thirty one minutes and twenty one seconds into Under The Cherry Moon? She's wearing John Lennon glasses and drinking a glass of soy milk. You just know Prince had the set designer put that there for a reason. No hard feelings.
