On Thursday night when Jay announced that he would have Prince on his show Friday night the audience did not applaud or clap or anything, I sensed a real chill. So my question is do you think Prince's recent behavior might get him Booed or has hurt him with audiences? I'm afraid, I say yes.

I thought most tv shows were recorded with a free audience, they are over here. the audience turn up and hope to see someone famous. They also record over and over its quite tedious. my kid did the first ever smarter than a 10 year old - in the audience and it took forever! so Im guessing the audience didnt respond cos there wasnt a card held up by a guy that said 'APPLAUSE!'

I just don't think the rest of the world thinks about Prince as much as we do...

Most people I know that aren't Prince fans say..

"ohhh Prince is doing the Super Bowl?, cool"

"ohh Prince is gonna be on Leno?, nice.."

they respect him and are curious about him but they aint all

If you watch Leno regularly, you'll see that he announces "tomorrow night's guests" during each show and there is rarely any reaction whatsoever. It's not like the entire audience sitting there get to stay another day for another show...they're either thinking, "OK, fine, let's get to the people who are here NOW" or "do something funny to make me laugh." Or they're just pissed because the next show's guests are better than the ones they're watching.

Also, few people outside of folks like us who scour the internet for Prince tidbits know anything about what he's been up to since the Super Bowl, aside from his O2 performances.

I wouldn't read a thing into what you saw...you must also realize that most of the applause you hear on television is prompted.

I agree with all of you who say that the average person is not as into Prince as we are. Most people aren't really aware of the "drama" with the fansites and such unless they are really into entertainment news...and even then there hasn't been much coverage. I don't think most people who aren't huge Prince fans have thought much about him since his appearance on the Super Bowl.
There will be fans in the audience and he will get a huge welcome.
