Awesome new deal? New Song?

I was listening to radio just now and it said that whomever runs Def Jam was thinking of giving Prince a killer contract and a new single eek Any truth to this?

Now, now, you should know that unless it is confirmed by Prince's camp, it is ALWAYS a rumor. Never trust the source.

This could be someone at Universal trying to get back in to Prince's bed. They didn't do a great job with 3121 (promotion wise). They did get him several Grammy nods as well as a number one album, but that was it. At least with Sony, he won a Grammy.

man, if this was 88 it would be cool, but Def Jam without Rick Rubin is nothing at all.
Imagine Rick Rubin Producing Prince, that would be cool.

I think these days Prince needs a little something something, I said it would be cool is all.
There is no harm in someone producing you, it sometimes helps you think outside of where you usally are, an outside perspective is all.

I love the work he's done with U2,the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys etc. etc.
If he EVER used a Producer,He's the man.

i would love it if rick rubin worked with prince on an album. if he could help breathe some vitality into johnny cash and neil diamond's later work, imagine what he could do for prince. but i don't see that being a likely scenario.

hmmm.... i dunno. Rick Rubin can be hit or miss some times... he can produce a classic album like Blood Sugar Sex Magic then turn around and produce absolute CRAP like One Hot Minute...you never know.
Change it one more time..

You are wrong. Read the liner notes of the Gold Experience.

ALL of Prince's albums have highs and lows (like lots of albums/artists). I would never go that far to say he isn't capable. As much as I disliked Planet Earth, I still enjoy Chelsea Rogers, The One U Wanna C, FBM, and Mr. Goodnight. Hell, FBM is some of his best produced/written r&b songs in years.

Not completely. Ricky Peterson was just there. That was also a way for Ricky to get his name out there as a producer. As we all know, it would HAVE TO BE ON HIS OWN TERMS. The people he as credited as co-producers were people that have worked for him. Rick Ruben and others wouldn't go for a deal like that.

Well if you listen to todays 'hottest' producers, Timbaland and Pharrel, you realise they are not much more than Prince rip-off merchants. Have you heard Madonnas new cd? Geeze they even got wendy to do some P guitar. So why would he get anyone else to produce him? Silly silly silly conversation in my humble opinion.

Because Prince's sound in 08 is not so vital as Prince 20+ yrs ago. It is highly unlikely but I would be very interested in someone working with Prince, who could bring something raw and vital out of him.

I understand ur point. However, we know that P goes out to clubs and listens to today's music to get his "fresh" ideas. wink

Why else would "Black Sweat" sound like a Euro-disco/modern funk song.

the only one that i would like to produce prince right now is nigel godrich

he's the only one who imo could add something significant to prince's music
without interfering with prince's songwriting or try to make him relevant,
in a world where relevance means you'll have a lifespan of 2 weeks.

I liked F.U.N.K. - it's fun but I was thinking more along the lines of something where he stretches himself and expresses something from deep within. FUNK is a return visit to somewhere he was 20+ yrs ago (kinda my original point)
