KISS the song . I can't stand to hear it! I heard Kiss on the radio the other day and had to turn it off. I feel its one of his worst songs. Why can't I hear his new songs on the radio? Do I have to hear old Prince forvever?

http://www.terrydobbin.com I loved the lyrics back in the day. The whole "Dynasty" refeence was total Prince humor, but now it's sooo dated. to me Kiss was just a basic James Brown old school riff and another song that had been done by him before with Jack U Off, Delirious, Horny Toad, and a few more in that style. The best thing about it was how minimal and stripped down it was. The first time I heard it on the radio I really lsitened. Prince's best songs ever IMO are the stripped down ones- When Doves, Sign O the Times (almost the whole album) Dirty Mind album, etc. Less is more, I wish he would remember that. ______________________________________________

http://www.terrydobbin.com Yep, 'cause the old Prince is the commercial "pop star" Prince. Sad isn't it? But I still love the old stuff as much as the new stuff. ~KiKi

KISS!!!... | |

I love Kiss, but the "You don't have to watch Dynasty" makes me cringe. It makes the song as dated as 1999. ![]()

Yes. Unless you want him to kowtow to major labels. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

There's a band I know, has one of the best slap bass players I've ever heard locally. Most of their work is original, but they do a cover of Kiss that makes every ass in the house get up on the dance floor. People who aren't even Prince fans respond to this song. There's a lot of good in that.

Kiss is PERFECT. There isn't a thing wrong with this song. I still hear it played in clubs today, and it still gets people dancing.
I know Prince never like the version he released, but i disagree. I think it is without a doubt the best single he has ever released. I love that it is sparse, and a totally 80's song. Whilst that whole retro thing is cool at the moment, it shouldn't matter as this will stand as a great tune no matter waht era it's listened to in. IMO Kiss is the most 'Prince' thing Prince has ever recorded.

IMO it works perfectly also amongst today's sound. Unlike many other great 80's prince songs, whitch sound so 80's. I love Kiss because its so sparse. And the screaming part always works for me. I agree that the Dynasty reference is not so succesful, but it doesnt really bother me. He has done so many much more stupid lines... ********************************************

As a huge fan of "Dynasty",I really liked the reference to this show in the song. And you know,at the time,Prince was dating one of the stars of that show,Troy Beyer. He was also rumored to be involved with another star on the show,Emma Samms. So,it's kinda like an "in-joke" that he would mention this show in one of his songs...lol...
But,back to the matter at hand...I love "Kiss" and I NEVER get sick of hearing it,on the radio or in a nightclub. It's one of the funkiest things he's ever done.Like "Erotic City",it's one of those jams that will get everybody up on the dancefloor.

To me, "Kiss" was just an average Prince tune until I heard the full 12 inch maxi-single version. The second half is funky as! People who have only heard the single edit version (on Parade and The Hits) don't know what they're missing. If you haven't, do yourself a favour and go and find it!, it might just change your opinion of the song. I love the ending where he pretends he is an old fogie and is yelling at his wife about turning the TV off! (or whatever) Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

"kiss"?? one of his worst songs???
da horror. | |

The best version is the FULL 12 inch version he played at Paisley Park a few times back in 2000.
It puts the 12" vinyl version to shame ...

Kiss is a great song.
You generally find though, as a fan of any musician, that to like any mass selling, audience freindly song is considered naff. Even so, it doesn't stop it being a great track. -----------------------------------------

Kiss (though grossly overplayed) is really a brilliant song. Every time I hear his early acoustic demos of it and how it evolved into its final form I'm amazed. Every sound (like much of Parade) is so carefully placed. Its stripped down to the bare minimum.

FIRST 1999 IS NOT DATED!! Party like it is 1999. Great example for every other future party.
Kiss is great. Sorry you can't hear it (anymore). Oh and kiss is dated only by the dynasty line.

Dy Nasty was the show. I used to love it. Maybe cuz I know folks like that in real life. Who told Mr.Spellling your business. Ouch. Anyway. The 80's was all about excess and being as outrageous as you could with style image reigned supreme. You must be to young to remember. The only other show on was Dallas. I would have shot JR. Besides the clothes were the draw. sorry if that was over your head...jump up and try to catch the point next time.

The old Prince stuff is anything prior to his pop breakthrough with 1999! My favorite "old" Prince stuff will be forevermore linked to his first, maybe, 3 or 4 albums, especially the more R&B flavoured tracks. That's some good ole vintage soul music, in my book!

Hear, hear. I was at a club a few weeks ago, and the dancefloor was dead. (Just me and two other people.) I asked the DJ if she had anything by Prince. She played "Kiss," and the floor literally filled up. I was so happy! Maybe that was the beer.

I really dug it alot back in the day.at first it had a Al Green Vibe to me. Prince had a Jam with it back in the day.the Long Version really added Life too it fully IMHO.the "Dynasty" Name Dropping was Cool for the time.but the song has been Played so much that it just doesn't Hit as much as it once did.but it's still a Prince Classic IMHO.stripped down&direct.the way I dig His Songs Personally.funny thing is Prince never plays the song the same Live.He doesn't seem Comfortable with the Song fully IMHO. mistermaxxx

Don't believe it...but, sometimes there r days (or months) u can't stand any Prince songs (or maybe u're whole music collection.) Then I need some new stuff. Music by any other artists. That is what I could understand.
Btw. Play that song (12") in a really loud volume. I mean RREEAAALLLYYY LOOOUUUDD!! LOUDER!! Good. Maybe u (and all the policemen u get 2 know each other then) could dance 2 the music again...
