I do agree he needs a new sound, both on stage and on record. His band has sounded the same for ages actually.


But I think what he really needs is to do some serious drugs. A good summer dropping acid and doing lines of cocaine could seriously produce some of his best material yet. Prince has the skill--he just needs the inspiration.

Let's not forget he's almost 50;I think his age and religion plays a big part in how his music has changed. And I can accept that; Prince has nothing left to prove, he is and always will be a great musician and performer, imo.

The Planet Earth album did not even make gold that is a big drop in sells for a Prince album.Bottom line, if u can not sell records then major labels don't want u.And if that's the case then we won't here any Prince albums on a major scale anymore.And i don't want that!

IMHO Prince will always sound unique because he is unique. Updating his sound is something that comes to him naturally and yes he also takes elements of the past that HE likes. I listen to the new music with trepidation because our youngheads are not getting true music from the radio. Even Mariah has a number one that is melodious but lyrically weak. Then there are the Usher sound alikes that all sound alike if you know what I mean. Chris Brown has a few good tracks, but Mario, Dream, Omarion, J.Holiday and even Justin are disappointing though highly marketable. Prince's sound has gotten older but thank God so have I. 3121 doesn't sound updated enough for you?

Batdance ...was a joke at first listen ...i was depressed cause i was craving for some cool shit ...then after seeing the vid ...sometime happened to me ...its now my absolute fav vid of prince ...and the song is wicked and creative ...this is just my experience ...like i said i was a hater to start then something grabbed me ...THE MUSIC...his music was a fix that i couldnt find elsewhere ...just that lately its been watered down ...(like mixing coke with baking soda i guess...i dont do drugs by btw).
