Is it Prince, Universal Music Publishing, or Both behind blocking peoples videos?

I was singing to a "Karaoke CD"and Universal Music Publishing block the music on youtube to Purple Rain Karaoke. My gosh, It's a Karaoke CD! eek

What do you all think, Is it wrong or copywright infringement singing to a Karaoke CD????

According to Prince, singing along with him at a show is probably breaking the law.

If you know Prince doesn't want his music on Youtube, and will take down any video with his music on it. Why did you put the video up their in the first place???

It's not copyright infringement to sing a Prince song on a karaoke machine in a bar, because the company that makes the karaoke music pays royalties to the artist.

Putting video of yourself singing said Prince song on Youtube is copyright infringement. Because you're broadcasting or distributing his music without his approval.

It's not the same as playing a Prince song on the radio, or seeing a Prince video on MTV or VH1.

There are other people singing Prince songs on you tube and they haven't muted the audio on them; if he or Universal going to do some people then do everybody!!!

Many artists would be happy with some broadcasting; furthermore I wasn't distributing sh%$ if I was I would be "Collecting Money"!!!!

By posting a copyrighted Prince composition on YouTube (regardless of what you think you were doing) you were allowing YouTube to make available copies of Prince's music.

Ordinarily, if a composer's music is broadcast, they would expect to receive a royalty payment from the broadcaster.

YouTube has refused to reach agreement with artists who have asked for such payments and therefore the artist, the artist's publishing company (who collect royalties on the artist's behalf) or other agent's instruct YouTube to remove the broadcast.

It is copy right infringment. I found an article concerning the fees that bars have to pay to have Karaoke nights. I think it is mainly Universal going after the money because that is really their job to collect the fees.

Article about Nightclubs being fined for not paying fees for bands to cover tunes.

Yeah and the more he does with it, the less people will want to hear it. He's an asshole.
