"Purple Funk", new Prince art

Hi all,

I don't post on here much but I do enjoy reading all the interesting comments on here everyday. Just thought I'd share a new piece of art I've done with Prince as the subject. I referenced an "America" video pic (sorry, uncertain of the photographer's name) but changed it up a bit. After the party that was Purple Rain it was when I watched this video in long form that I knew I'd be an admirer for a long time. I'm having some trouble copying and pasting directly from my webpage so here's the link instead:

Hope you think it's alright!

Ok, I thought I knew what I was doing. If anyone can help with creating a link or the pic itself, I'd appreciate it!

The face is a little off...P's jowls look like they belong on a bodybuilder.
The use of color is very nice however.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

First off, I don't believe Prince would ever have approved of this painting. It doesn't even come close. I must be honest...try a simple something...not people. Prince does not have thick lips and his jaws/skin does not sag.

U know somehow I doubt this painting was being submitted for Prince's approval shrug

No prob dude...I love the subject. As someone said, art is subjective and can be interpretted many ways. I have done some Prince art myself...maybe I'll go take a pic and post it in a minute. Thru doing that, i've realized that P is a hard MF to capture...lol. My piece makes him look like Bruce Lee. hmm

It isn't a portrait, it's an artist's rendering and a pretty good one.

Thanks for all the comments. I really appreciate them either way, I'm just trying to develop as an artist myself.I knew that it wouldn't please everyone but that's fine. I'm aware of certain issues I had with capturing his face. There were several things I had to consider(referenced from a smaller picture, the face on the finished piece is at a slightly different angle than the pic, etc.), but no excuses. I'm also aware that his lips probably appear too big but as someone said, it's just a rendering, I didn't want it to be too perfect. I mean the guitar alone isn't exactly a recognizeable one he'd play, but it's blue like the one in the pic...but it's not the focus. Thanks again!

If a picture is meant to be an exact representation, one should use a camera. Art is about expression. You have a nice style - go with it.

Have you ever seen any of Prince's artwork/paintings?!? LOL. I think Prince would definitely see the artistic value of this piece.
