I love that performance. I taped it on VHS...then ripped it to my iTunes and dubbed it onto a DVD.

I think I got all the bases covered.

Tha Kid was in RARE form that night.

That performance kicked my ass! Everything was on point and he was working it HARD. I can't believe it was over 2 years ago.

I agree. I was happy for P cuz it was like "Let me show these folks that I still can turn it out on the axe." I like what Spyz once said about this performance. That P sounded like Jimi and looked like Ike Turner."!

I really enjoyed the "Beautiful, Loved and Blessed" performance from that night as well.

i got 2 b honest, i really wasn't feeling this per4mance, i was tuning in2 what he was doing on guitar and the effect pedals.

perhaps it was because i was more hoping 4 prince 2 do black sweat instead

I was especially surprised by his vocal performance!

Great timing and phrasing, especially 'the laugh' on 'Only a woman knows, only she knows'

As I watched the performance, I thought, "Now, this is the Prince that I remember."

on fire. that's what it was. everything about it was perfect.
the vocal performance i like the studio version just a
bunch but this one if on a whole different level. **wicked**

I will never forget that night I saw it. I had forgot he was supposed to play. Then as soon as I turned to it they introduced him (talk about purple karma). Soon as he finished with his last Solo me & my friend(a non-Prince fan) were both like .

It was brilliant.

I was at a function so I had to DVR it. I got home about 2:00 AM. My wife was asleep when I cued it up.

After 30 seconds, she was awake. And she stayed awake for the next thirty minutes, as I watched that over and over and over.

WOW, what a performance.

Off the top of my head, the only other TV performance I've seen that matches it was Lenny Kravitz on "The Tonight Show" about ten years ago.

Leno said, "Here's Lenny Kravitz and he's going to blow the roof off this joint!"

Kravitz tore into "Are U Gonna Go My Way?" and he DID blow it up!

reminded me, again, why I can't stop watching!!! Amazing..effortless, and he looked like he was trying to impress which is not always the case these days. I remember watching it at home and being floored. When I finally got a copy of it, I watched it to death. I'm going to watch it now again.

The strong part of this performance was, IMO, that he was trying to impress and express, but without overdoing it.

I was expecting him to do "Black Sweat", but as soon as he count "1,2,3,4" off to the band before Steve Martin could even finish introducing him, I knew something was up.

I don't think many people have debuted a brand new song on SNL. Especially the way Prince did!!!

I loved everything about that performance

-His guitar work (obviously)
-His vocals
-The Lyrics
-Tamar & The Twins' vocals & dance moves
-Him strutting off the stage at the end of the stage

It reminded me off some sort of Jimi Hendrix meets Ike & Tina Turner Revue.

Well, let's see...as I was watching...I started off quiet. Then I got loud. And then, I got black.

Oh, Prince! Oh, shit! Prince! Ohhhh, Lawd!

It's moments like this.. that reminds you why we (some of us) stick around and still pay $$$$$ to see the man live.

This was brilliant. Short, raw, in your face.

The studio cut is overproduced, glossy, keys too high in the mix, bass mixed way to loud and it digitally clips the song.

He does this way too often on guitar tracks such as Endorphin, Dolphin, etc.

All 3 have live performances that rank up there with the best.

In terms of what I bolded above..

Look what happens next... he records the 'Planet Earth' album, which was recorded and mixed nearly the opposite of '3121', with guitars up front, clarity and breath between the different instruments, etc... and most folks here hate it.

Go figure.
