Carlos Santana wants to work with Prince! Q. Who's on the list of performers you'd like to work with?
A. Sting, Prince, Mariah Carey, Ben Harper, Yo-Yo Ma, El Nino, and a lot of unknown people in the street and their garages. http://www.stltoday.com/s...enDocument love is a fate resigned memories mar my mind love it is a fate resigned Over futile odds and laughed at by the Gods and now the final frame Love is a losing game

Carlos Santana wants to work with anyone who is on the hot itunes 100 list, LOL!
I think this might of had amazing potential at one time, but both are watered down versions of themselves. Maybe a live cut or award show performance could really show them burn on guitar but I think a studio cut would be plagued by cliche production, lyrics, and smell of radio pop. Music is the best...

I concur, on all points. Prince and Santana live would be killer. But the only way a studio track between the two could work, given their current approaches to their craft, is if they both were willing to relinquish enough control to let in a 3rd party producer -someone who'd have the sense not to overpolish the sound and make it overly radio friendly, a la both Carlos' and Mr. Nelson's recent work. Let the track be left with a raw, rougher edge, and it could be a thing of beauty. That being said, if such a collabo did happen, I think Prince should stick to vocals or piano; anything but guitar. He's a brilliant player, but he just can't hold a candle to Santana's skill. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

carlos santana had much larger inpact on guitar players then prince
but to say that prince " just can't hold a candle to Santana's skill" i heard prince and sntana playing together santana medley and belive me if i say that prince played much better and nastier santanas licks and riffs then carlos santana himself. if i could describe prince's guitar playing i would dare to use this description "santana on steroids"/ have you heard prince singing and santana playing guitar solo on joy in repetition from washington 2002 one nite alone tour. santanas solo was good and interesting to hear if you would ever wonder how it would sound if santana was soloing over joy in repetition. but santanas solo didn't emitate 10 % of what prince plays on that song everytime he rips it on guitar. santanas solo just didn't contain that kind of passion ,emotions and rawness prince would emitate. year ago michael bland said here on prince org that after miami gig 1995 prince put his band tape that was recorded day ago . michael bland in his words said that on that video prince was jamming with carlos and that prince played every lick before santana figured what prince plays

It would B a great 2 see them 2gether!
I've seen Carlos twice, a month ago most recently. Now I don't if he wasn't well or he's getting 2 old 4 this shit, but he wasn't as good as he was when I saw him durring the "all that I am" tour! I'd love 2 see the 2 of them with David Gilmour as well! It's B a Guitar Fest!

I guess we can take this to mean that jacko doesn't want to work with him again, although he and quincy were to work with him.

yeah....I love Carlos, but in recent years,he's worked with practically everybody and it's getting really tired.I would like him to make a new CD without any guest stars, for a change. I think this might of had amazing potential at one time, but both are watered down versions of themselves.Maybe a live cut or award show performance could really show them burn on guitar but I think a studio cut would be plagued by cliche production, lyrics, and smell of radio pop.
I completely agree.Years ago,a Prince/Santana collaboration would have been a big deal.But now,I wouldn't be excited about it.

Alongside Hendrix, Santana influence on P as a guitarist is paramount. P loved Carlos damn near all of P's life. P has praised Carlos several times during interviews and Carlos knows this. On the other hand, I think Carlos has admired P as an artist since early in P's career. Like many other artists have. A lot of known artists dug P before PR even came out. At least that is what they have stated. Point being, I think Santana has admired P and respected P as an artist and has probably thought it would have been cool to work with P for years now. That would be awesome.
You should hear his playing and his band on this clip. He totally sounds like the REvolution in many many parts of this performance.

I love Santana. In fact, I am going to see him in concert tomorrow night. However, to say that Prince is not on his level just is not so. Actually, I remember talking with members of Santana's band about working with Prince because they were headed to Minneapolis and they said that they've played with Prince often. They said that one year Prince joined them and he knew their songs better than they did. They said that Prince was running through one song after the next and that Prince was amazing. Karl Perrazo, Santana's long-time percussionist use to play with Sheila and he went on and on about how great Prince's guitar playing is. So, I think the poster is mistaken who thinks Prince cannot hold it down with Carlos. Carlos' own band members give P his cred. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...
