Yes, I have it on vinyl from the 80's but I'm pretty sure it's not original.

If you can see the black on black image of Prince on the cover it's a boot. I bought that one in the 80's.

I have no clue. I own the album and remember in '88 or '89 going into a record store in BCN and between some albums of other people there was this totally black album. I couldn't see from who it was but I even saw Prince in my food so I got a heart attack. The cover inside was also black. When I took the album out of that cover I saw it was the black album and bought it.

I had to wait until I got home to play it because we had no recordplayer in BCN.

I just went to the attic to get the record and make a pic.
It says 1987, doesn't mention any "made in ..."

Can anyone see if it's an original or a fake??

It's a fake. If you check the sleeveographia website you'll be able to see the differences. The easy way of checking is the misspelling of Rockhard In A Funky Place on the label it's 'Rockard' on the boot.

That vinyl Black Album with the black varnished/unvarnished Prince pic was one of the very first BA boots. The boot BA cassette sounded much better. Then I got the boot BA CD. I was pretty much hooked on Prince boots after that.

If U do, would U prove it by providing a picture of it?

I do own it but I do not know how to provide a picture of it. It cost me $35.00 when I finally found a copy of it!!!

If it only cost $35.00, then it's not a genuine copy.

I will have 2 check my collection if it's a bootleg
or not...it probably is! I paid 2000 Begian francs
in "88 (about 50 Euro) insteed of 4000 francs(the normal price),because
the guy I knew had 2 of them.

Bought the CD release years later for only 15 Euro...

It's no SOTT or Lovesexy but it has some great grooves:
Cindy C,Bob George,Superfunkycalifragisexy,The Grind.
They are as essential as other Prince songs from that period..2me!

I read somewheres that P
gave out copies to close friends

I also remember going in MUSICLAND one day
I'm not sure if this was the 80's or the 90's
but there was a rack (behind the register)
full of them... I mean they were all black covers
but the shrink wrap had the pink writing on it
or something to that effect...
I asked the worker what it was, and he told me

I also remember seing the SOTT movie
and that 1985 P & The Rev concert on VHS
that store had some GOOD SHIT!!!!

I'm sure it was "good & pricey" shit too LOL

I get approx one mail a week by people stating they have the original. When checked it's always the rockard boot or the facecover.

Most of the time the people end up in a 'YES it's the real one because it was sold to me that way and it was cheap/expensive' loop.

Unfortunately it isn't the real one.

I got what had to be a twentieth-generation cassette recording of it in 88 and wore it out. I got a face copy of the bootleg in 92 and never listened to it. I got the CD from a record exec w/WB whenever it was officially released and loved it.

I love Rockhard and when 2 r in love. The rest is damn good, but rather dated at this point... most likely because I played it into the ground when I had the crappy cassette version.

I had tons of boots - I didn't care that they were recorded in the back of a VW beetle through a tin cup and string - the jam was there, that's all that mattered.

So do I have the original black album? Yes I do. Is it the original pressing that's legendary? Why would I want that when I got it free three times over?
