How do you respond?

How do you respond?

Through the years...friends, or passing aquaintences...would listen to me..speak about Prince in such high regard...It started when I was a teenager...that I was called a groupie or a idol worshipper....I honestly never believed that to be true.
I wanted to go into lighting design...and I did end up getting my foot through a difficult door, to prove my dedication. I went on the road in 1984 for 7 months with Midnight Star, Shalamar and Klymaxx. I took care of the crew'z laundry, and ran with the local runner of the town we were in.
I was 18, and I was offered the opportunity to learn the trade in Atlanta...but I was afraid to move there alone...so I didn't go...which leads down a road that turns me into a 21 year old mother. My dreams of continuing in the music business as a behind the scenes hand....were sacrificed.

This experience would be added to later conversations...when talking about Prince being a great song writer and musician...and I was still called a groupie...or an Idol worshipper.

I continually dealt with this label...and in 2001 I traveled to Minneapolis to be a counselor for the "Carman." concert. And I did have 3 conversations that night with women that had problems, and a man that had lost his wife recently.

Anyway...My Prince symbol was tucked into my clothez...and I sat on the end seat of the front row during the show...before, people were called to the alter...where we as counselor's would stand beside them, and leave to discuss...surrender to Jesus.

I had all of those comments tucked in my heart with the hidden Prince symbol, there in Minneapolis.

I brought my heart to Jesus, on the idol worship subject, as my head fell to the ground and a stream of tears bounced off of my shoez....And Jesus, sat down with me...and said...Hey, don't worry...It's just love. cool

Have any of u dealt with this emotion, and how did u respond 2 those accusations?

prince is just a dude. a very accomplished, talented dude.

his persona is larger than life and full of symbolism and various meanings from over the years, but his persona is not necessarily him. it's a sculpture he continues to create for public consumption. to hinge too much attachment to a performer's persona is to invest in a facade.

i think it's fun to analyze and deconstruct the persona prince continues to create for himself, but at the end of the day, i think it's important to remember he's just a dude.

Tame, I'm sure you are very sweet, but most of your posts seem to hint that you are away with the fairies.

So, most of your life, you have spoken about Prince in such a way that people call you a worshipper or crazy or whatever.

I think Ben Kingsley's advice is better than anything else I could give you....

"The first time someone calls you a horse you punch him on the nose, the second time someone calls you a horse you call him a jerk but the third time someone calls you a horse, well then perhaps it's time to go shopping for a saddle."

Just out of curiousity, you don't happen to love John Cusack in the same way do you?

In fun, I often label myself a Prince 'groupie' and lately I fear I may spend more time than I should 'orging', but you have to ask yourself. Am I taking it too far? Answering truthfully is liberating. I don't think I've gone too far, but there are others/friends who can't even believe I went to Vegas and Minneapolis to see Prince confused . It is hard to explain and may even be a mid-life crisis for me, but I'm happy. Try praying on it some more.

Have to agree with Anx there.... nod

Prince is just a talented dude or dudette.... whatever... ! I love him because he is talented. I wish I was. sigh

So I don't idolize or worship anyone... I am not religious either, but I am honest to myself.
I don't have any Prince pics on my wall, nor do I have pics of my hubby. Maybe some of my daughter, that's because she is my little brat. (OK so the apple does not fall very far from the tree there).

All in all, just be who you are... and if you happen to love Prince a bit more and are happy doing that, then do it wink and don't worry about what people say or think.. (because you can't control them).
