Well,I have come to the utter realization that you pure and simply no longer like Prince because every thread that I ever see with your post is never anything but pure unadulterated hate!!!Anyway, this new song was flat, boring, and utterly worthless. Yet ANOTHER song about how his online fans "don't know him" and that they should "give him what he needs". "Turn Me Loose" makes "Get on the Boat" look like Mozart. Give it a rest already. And what kind of band was that? About a hundred people on stage. The only bright spot was Renato, who is a real trooper to lower himself to play such beautiful keys to such low quality music -- what a mess of a song. Embarrassingly bad -- a performance and song that wouldn't appeal to a person who was 18 or 80 or even the mentally ill. I felt ashamed watching it with my girl. Prince... in all seriousness... what's happened to your skills?

I think that nothing exciting is happening in Prince's life, therefore his music is suffering big time. Back in the day, the group he spent the most time with influenced him and contributed a lot more than the people he spends time with today.
Prince has become even more introverted and doesn't allow anyone to contribute anything, Paisley Park is like a tomb, and again, Prince's life has seen many tragedies. Basically, like everyone else's life. Prince's refusal to actually write about those tragic events, how he really feels, and his insistence to try and put a positive spin on life is his music's undoing. A song like Anna Stesia was great because it went from pain to faith. The message was I was in a bad place, I felt lost, and now I realize my mistake and I'm looking to God for an answer. Even as an agnostic, I can appreciate that message, that he was in a bad place and he will look for an answer somewhere else. Prince's music today feels false because it is false. His albums don't feel like albums because they aren't; they're just collections of songs from the Vault. The only really true album Prince has released in a long, long time is The Rainbow Children. How do I know this? Because it's the only album he's really played live on tour. Michael Dean said on one of his podcasts that he can tell if a Prince album is a real Prince album based on whether or not Prince has enough faith in the music to play it live... TRC, The Come/Gold material. Diamonds and Pearls... Symbol... Lovesexy, SOTT, Parade, ATWIAD... you see... theh old albums! Prince's fans know Prince better than Prince knows himself. I know Prince hates to hear it, and steam is probably fuming from his ears, but it's a message he's gotta hear. And he also hates when he talk down about Larry Graham. Prince... in all seriousness... what's happened to your skills? That's just how it is on fansites. You have people who claim to not find Prince or his music interesting yet they still visit fansites and dedicate time talking about him. i will never understand that in a million years. If you recall people have been complaining about Prince's music in that manner for the past 15 years. If you have been around long enough you'll be used to this. from what I understand this very board was nothing but complaints until the Musicology tour rolled out and people could not deny how much of a good time they were having. I myself wasn't too crazy about the song on Leno but his huge catalog continues to give me much to enjoy. Big deal. [Edited 4/26/08 8:45am]

[Edited 4/26/08 8:34am] That is possibly the most sensible thing that you have ever posted but I think some people don't want to hear about his pain and suffering when he is a multimillionaire. Sure sometimes when he goes into his personal stuff, many fans flame him so he can do nothing right to some of you and if he plays one of his old hits he is said to resting on his past so he really has no way to win with some of you but I thought that at least the performance would put to bed the hip replacement rumors. I think that he gave a great performance and it was great to see Mr. Hayes up there jamming once again with P. Who knows what this new music will bring but I will be sticking around to hear like I always have since the 1st album. Call a Fam or fan but he is my favorite and I'm sticking with the Kid!!!

I was like, this guy is almost 50, performing nastalgia.....he's probably gonna settle in las vegas or sumthin. that would really be sad. after watchin the tiva, he looks like he has to convince us he's a performer. we knew that! If hes tired, let him rest, we won't forget him. he seems comfortable playing with most anyone....so let him roam. I enjoy discovering those surprise visits. it shouldn't be like work does he have a problem writing for other folks???? if other artists were a little less snotty, he may be willing to collaborate. idk ...maybe If I could sing, i'd be hunting him down for studio/engineering time. :teddybear: [Edited 4/26/08 9:42am]

I loved it, even though I would've loved 2 have more. Funky. Loved the clavinet part, and the guitar was TIGHT. The sound was near perfect, and Prince's voice was in TOP form. Same old ORG, though... Folks just can't seem 2 dig the Funk 'round here. Either that, or people have just become spoiled and over saturated... dunno. I'm excited about the new album. Peace. I loved it too! It was very funky. I recorded it on my DVR and I'll put it to mp3 for my player. TURN ME LOOSE! And Renato was funky as usual! Jason

Anyway, Prince really needs to let someone else produce him. He no longer has the vision to self-produce. He needs someone who can bring out his dormant potential and challenge him in the right way... to make something that sounds new and ecletic ...not a carbon copy of generic funk.

OK. We had the horn players from Grupo Fantasma, the hubby and wife on bass and drums, Shelby, Marva and Ledisi as the church lady back ups, Renato on lead keys and P on guitar.
Who, pray tell, was the brotha with the dreads on second keys? Thanks to all who translated the lyrics. I'm glad P is back to singing about what happens in the bedroom. I always felt he was at his best in that genre. He's got more sexual charisma in his pinky than any 10 white rock stars. - Song was good, but generic, if that makes sense. Nothing special, but still groovable. As a single, it'd be DOA though. - That mural in the background was ace, and it'd make an awesome album cover... kinda recalled the ATWIAD art with a more defined ethnic twist. - The dancing ladies in the background bugged the hell out of me... really sucked the coolness factor away. - The awkward intro was hilarious... the expression on Prince's face was a mix of "Huh?!" and "Well, shit." [Edited 4/26/08 0:42am] Yeah. He's tv appearences were alot more exciting in the '90s back when he was really out there - meaning, really bizarre - in the Mayte era. He's sure mellowed out alot. Wow...well, at least we got all the expected glowing reviews and kill-joy inspired gripes on the Org...I don't know what's funnier? Reading folks say that the song and Leno performance was grade A funk (u guys really don't believe that? do you?) or Reading folks crucify Prince for putting "another nail in his creative coffin.." Look, I'll be the first to say that this was a lighthearted performance that broke NO new ground...But I'll be happy when Prince fans can just take a 50 year old artist for what he/she is...Is "Turn Me Loose" a great song? No...I've heard better from him over the past 15 years...A lot better...But all of this talk about how he needs Wendy & Lisa (another blast from the past gripe...and frankly stale) or that he's "dampening his legacy" and showing that his run from 1980-87" was in hindsight not genius, put the work of a talented pop star (Again Wall, really?...lol) is some of the most laughable stuff I've read on this board in a minute... There is a difference between level headed criticism and shock posting...I mean let's be real...Ten years ago, Prince was looked at as a great artist who had gone into obscurity...He could only sell out small venues and rarely got any love on national television or music discussions...Which makes me think that a lot of the folks that are doing the extreme revisionist history are going into convulsions over the fact that Prince has become a media favorite...That has to be the reason that folks have taken the criticism to new heights...LOL... Motherfuckers have become fortunetellers...These folks will tell you how Prince is going to play the same ol' boring show at todays festival (Damn...silly me...I thought his live performances was the reason he has gotten back into the good graces of the genreal public and old school Prince heads)... I'll say it again...I'm glad we can speak our minds on the Org...But let's do it within reason and not just to do the same ol shock post BS...It's getting a little lame and predictable on both sides from the "Fams" (I hate that term...it creeps me out) to the haters (when you bring up shit that has nothing to do with a particular topic, then yes that's good ol fashion hate..)...The sky is not falling...It is what it is...A man getting on in years, who seems comfortable in his own skin...And a bunch of fans wishing that it was 1987 again...What's new? Mr. Morris Hayes I thought Mr. Hayes be sportin' the chrome dome look. He couldn't have grown those dreads in the time since I saw him last. I guess they could have been fabulous fakes sewn into his hat though. They never did any close ups on his section of the stage so I never got to see his face.

here's a few things I liked
funky song no more twins no signs of necessary hip replacement no more introduction of being called prince and the npg (just Prince) still playin his beloved hoener guitar cool band, cool horn section, and the backup singers will work well at Coachella the things I didn't like the song was short I'm pissed I couldn't go see it live cuz he played 3 songs I would have actually enjoyed the fire alarm/evacuation adventure Jay Leno's jokes weren't as funny(time for new writers perhaps) The guests were so boring I was truely falling asleep but you know with Prince they always save the best for last [Edited 4/26/08 10:40am] To Sir, with Love
