anybody beside me think princes guitar playing on rave 2000 dvd is sub standard

on rave 2000 dvd best guitar solo was played by mike scott.

okay prince had his moments on intros to purple rain ,red house blues and american women solos but the irony is mike scott and torry ruffin played better guitar solos then princ that night.

his playing sounded pour, without anykind of emotions with lots of mistakes(during purple rain solo he made 3 or 4 mistakes) eek eek eek

if you compare his playing on musicology in la dvd and rave 2000 dvd
prince on musicology dvd is 10 times better guitar player.

also his guitar sound on rave dvd is simply awful.
what went wrong ,prince didn't practise during that period? cafe de paris gig also is very poor in guitar department.

but since year 2002 he improved very very much.

ok
listen to purple rain solo (rave 2000 dvd) after he finish singing, you can clearly hear 4 or 5 mistakes while he solos, which is unusual for perfecionist like prince is.
and his overall playing that night.now matter how much he played that night he didn't cut it if you know what i mean.
his guitar playing that night maybe can impress someone who don't know how great prince can play guitar but overall to those who know his playing that night was very forced and disapointing.
admit to yourself best guitar solo that night is by mike scott, second place is torry ruffin

i know when i play rave 2000 dvd to my guitar freak friends they are only not impressed at all.

when i play them any other prince guitar video they can't belive how briliant prince is on guitar.

rave 2000 dvd is his lowest point of all time in guitar playing department.
all of the solos were off, unconvincing, muddy, unispired, all sounds like a bird who tries to fly aways but the wing is broken.

Sub standard? I didn't notice, was he nervous? eek

My husband, who plays guitar, said at the O2 he didn't make ONE mistake (I was like 'mistake?' why would Prince ever make a 'mistake') it hadn't even occured to me lol confused

prince on musicology 2004 dvd kicks the shit out of prince during rave era in guitar playing department.

solo prince did on american woman can be considerd one of the worst guitar solos of all time which is strange 4 a killer guitar player prince is.

of course you can find elements of brilliance in american woman solo, purple rain intro ,red house blues intro.
he even fucked up get off guitar solo.

prince propbably himself wasn't pleased with his playing at that time so he had to reinvent his guitar playing and thank god his playing from 2002 -now days is maybe the best in his career ever.

I think just about everything about the rave 2000 dvd is sub standard. I paid 99 cents and I felt slighted.

my review of princes guitar playing on rave 2000 dvd

let's go crazy -standard playing but with lack of emotions

she's always in my hair
-not bad but prince played much better solos on this song before and after.

u got the look-no matter how much prince tried to convince us by his facial expressions that he is cooking on guitar i didn't belive him-bland ,unispired second rate playing

fly away-maybe prince's worst solo ever

american women-first signs of briliance on guitar

gett off-prince played first bum notes during this solo, mike added best guitar solo that night

purple rain great intro guitar after that all went downhill ending guitar solo is full of mistakes 4 or 5 mistakes

the cross-again bland solo nothing special

red house blues-great intro guitar, again prince shos signs of brilliance but the leading solo in song is just off.prince done justice to this song in 1987 and on 2002 aftershows

I wouldn't say sub-standard, but you do have a point somewhere.

When I first watched it, there was something about it that didn't seem to have the same essence of alot of other live shows that I own.

The dvd is dts and I do have one shit hot digital system, but there was/is something lacking. I kinda started blaming the way the sound had actually been recorded from the sound board rather than the playing!!!

It has be argued in threads before, but even when Lenny comes on, he seems well comfortable and sounds really good when he rocks out, compared to Prince who seems quite uncomfortable with seemingly false and strained facial impressions!

Not my favourite Prince performance I have to admit!!! confused

What about the Septimo show, which was only a couple of months before that I think, what did you think of his guitar playing there?

septimo peformance is so overrated prince relies too much onb his effects there not on pure guitar playing also cafe de paris is one of his worst concerts regarding guitar solos.
he definetly didn't feel guitar during that era

I think the question ought to be "Does anyone think the Rave 2000 DVD is substandard?" Honestly it's a piece of junk. How is it that a Bootleg of a concert is superior to one made professionally, I'll never understand.

I watched some of the concert for the 1st time the other night (since that night the PPV aired) and I thought P played OK. P's even said it himself that playing one instrument all the time can get boring and I agree with him.

But the PPV TV ad where P asks "Doing anything NYE?"..he picks up his guitar and shreds over the chords of "1999"... I thought that was pretty cool. That right there was probably better than his playing on the whole PPV special.
