PRINCE OF PAISLEY PARK documentary The Prince of Paisley Park documentary is on VH1 Classic On Demand thru Time Warner cable. Saw it last night for the first time. So much footage I'd never seen before. It was cool . Must've originally aired in the early 90's since it only went up thru Diamonds and Pearls.

It did? Oh, it does! 1991! I just remember the 1988/89 footage so well; the aftershow with Mica Paris, the recording session of God Is Alive with Mavis Staples, the The Ladder rehearsel... [Edited 4/12/08 9:53am]

Hamster can u tell us a little more about it? It is an Omnibus (UK program) documentary. It features interviews with people like Sheila E, Mavis Staples, and some music reporters, all mapping out why Prince's music is so special. It was the first time he let a television team into his studio and he allowed people close to him to be interviewed. Besides that, what makes the program a must have is the material he gave them, the snippets I spoke of earlier; live material, behind the scenes footage etc. It gives you a before unseen peek into his inner circle. Plus, it makes you hate him so much for just sitting on that amazing live material; that snippet of The Ladder will haunt you for a time, as will the footage of the concert where he recorded Purple Rain live. Not just a version; the version, the one he overdubbed later and reworked into the even more sublime version that ended up on the actual album.

I can't believe that. I had no idea. But I really like this documentary because these people know exactly what they're talking about. They know Prince better than any of us and say just what an amazing artist he is using all of the right words Their perception of him matches mine had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Check The Vault page 607 ! Indeed,I have both on VHS somewhere...but my videoplayer is somewhere on the attic The best P-documentary I've ever seen! Love the concert footage of Baby,I'm a star performed in '91...I guess. There must be so much good stuff that he hasn't released...yet(?) Also:the journalist says Prince is the best live performer of his generation! Love4oneanother

I saw it. In depth enough. All it was was people talking about how great he was. I wanted some discussion about the recording of his albums, creative process, etc. Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

One of the funnier lines I remember was when Levi claimed Prince could write a hit at the drop of a hat.
Plenty of hats have dropped since then. Not as many hits.

I bought it and only looked at it once or twice.

My favorite part of that is when they ask Owen Husney if he can play any of Prince's early tracks for them and he gets a look on his face like the Purple Police are about to bust into the room. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
