Prince Funks Up L.A. at Uber-Exclusive Concert.

Shortly before 12:30, Prince & his band, Josh & C.C. Dunham and Morris Hayes kicked off the jazz set with “Chameleon” by Herbie Hancock. Next follows “Stratus” by Billy Cobham. It was a slowed down version and the way it was played left the crowd stunned. Prince then launched into “A Case Of You” by Joni Mitchell, a funky keyboard instumental. That followed with “What Is Hip?” by Tower of Power.

So much for a jazz show as “Everyday People” along with other Sly & The Family Stone songs including “Sing A Simple Song” into “Thank You…”were played with vocals
. Prince then went into “All The Critics Love U In L.A.” which was very heavy on guitar, and then went into “Satisfied”/”Cock-Eyed Woman”. Prince took the crowd back as he ripped into “Controversy”. His female vocalist Shelby J. sang “Baby Love” while in the crowd and then sang “Angel” by Sarah Mclachlan. That’s a surprise!

Prince then continued the funk-filled onslaught with one of the funkiest versions of “Alphabet St.” with full vocals. The master of events then went into “Cream”, which was quite the crowd pleaser. That followed by “U Got The Look” and then a guitar-driven “Honky Tonk Woman” with Shelby J. again leading on vocals.

He followed that with “1999″ as the energy in the place took off yet even higher. Prince then just started throwing out songs while the band jammed; “Le Freak” by Chic, a tease of “Foxy Lady” by Jimi Hendrix, then which lead into “Peach”! Prince was getting everyone to jump up and down on this one, including himself. Prince then pulled out the classic “Purple Rain” on the keys with the band backing him. Then he switched to guitar. Unbelievable. The crowd was left speechless and could only raise their hands n bob their heads.

What a night. As the stars try to leave outside shortly after 2:30 A.M. , the paparazzi attack. Stars who attended the concert were Adrian Grenier, Bill Mahr, Melanie Griffith, Tara Reid and others of young hollywood. What a night in the city of angels. Thanks to one of Dr. Funkenberry’s patients for helping out.-Dr.FB

I don't care what he played. I know he is going to rip it up and rock the house! I wish I was there. He can play whatever he wants, I know it will be a experience. That is one thing you don't have to worry when Prince plays. He takes care of business.

Prince and the Green Door

What do Prince and truffle mac and cheese have in common? You'll find both at the Green Door in Hollywood tomorrow. Prince---yes, PRINCE---is playing a semi-private, somewhat top-secret show. Well, secret until now. Folks, the Green Door isn't a huge music venue, but more velvet-chair, intimate-nook, French library-meets-Disney's-Haunted Mansion lounge, and it's tres difficult to get in on any night. Add Prince to the mix and it's not only impossible, but expensive: We're still working out ticket specifics (have to go through promoter), but it's $200 a pop. No one said the man was cheap. [EaterWire] lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol

yeah, the place i went to in NYC might have had the heavenly mac'n'cheese pancakes, but the decor looked more like a dimly lit version of the "newhart" stage set than a fancy haunted library (and of course, prince wasn't there...i don't think). lol

as for my enthusiasm, what can i tell ya...truffle mac'n'cheese excited

i think your probably right actually i read it as the band was Josh & C.C. Dunham and Morris Hayes rather than everyone but i am probably wrong lol

If this is the band then its the same as when he toured with Tamar minus well Tamar but that other chick is playing her part. If this is the make-up then it probably was rocking. I saw a Tamar show in Philly and it was a good show. Loose, guitar heavy. nice stuff. Also different because the ONLY prince song played was Party man. I dunno I really liked that tour just because it was so different. Prince seemed really laid back and was just having fun being mostly a lead guitarist. But I always thought that band with Prince singing would be a great small club show. Now it seems he is doing just that.

For the people complaining about people complaining about prince always playing Sly Stone stuff. How do you not get their complaints? it is annoying to always read them but if Prince is going to cover songs its always cool when he does something a little diffrent like cover Whinehouse, foo fighters, or Sara Maclaughlin (spelling?) Me if he is going to keep doing so many covers and is going to have this new light band then I am waiting for a cover of MAGGOT BRAIN.

that would be the shit.

Also if Prince is going to have Dr. funkenberry name drop for him he should probably find a few other "stars" than tara reid and her sloppy fake titties.

As for the band line up, the best London aftershow was when it was just guitar, bass and drums.

it would b even nicer 2 have more newer and relevant material in his act instead of a nostalgic act
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Not necessarily. But I must say the title should have included an Old Skool Funk set. Jazz set just don't sit with me when it follows funk. Although P is good at both. Just do one or the other, but not both. I'd prefer Jazz myself.
