Review of the Green Door Gig wasnt sure where to put this but sounds like it was a good night
Prince Funks Up L.A. at Uber-Exclusive Concert.
Shortly before 12:30, Prince & his band, Josh & C.C. Dunham and Morris Hayes kicked off the jazz set with “Chameleon” by Herbie Hancock. Next follows “Stratus” by Billy Cobham. It was a slowed down version and the way it was played left the crowd stunned. Prince then launched into “A Case Of You” by Joni Mitchell, a funky keyboard instumental. That followed with “What Is Hip?” by Tower of Power. So much for a jazz show as “Everyday People” along with other Sly & The Family Stone songs including “Sing A Simple Song” into “Thank You…”were played with vocals. Prince then went into “All The Critics Love U In L.A.” which was very heavy on guitar, and then went into “Satisfied”/”Cock-Eyed Woman”. Prince took the crowd back as he ripped into “Controversy”. His female vocalist Shelby J. sang “Baby Love” while in the crowd and then sang “Angel” by Sarah Mclachlan. That’s a surprise! Prince then continued the funk-filled onslaught with one of the funkiest versions of “Alphabet St.” with full vocals. The master of events then went into “Cream”, which was quite the crowd pleaser. That followed by “U Got The Look” and then a guitar-driven “Honky Tonk Woman” with Shelby J. again leading on vocals. He followed that with “1999″ as the energy in the place took off yet even higher. Prince then just started throwing out songs while the band jammed; “Le Freak” by Chic, a tease of “Foxy Lady” by Jimi Hendrix, then which lead into “Peach”! Prince was getting everyone to jump up and down on this one, including himself. Prince then pulled out the classic “Purple Rain” on the keys with the band backing him. Then he switched to guitar. Unbelievable. The crowd was left speechless and could only raise their hands n bob their heads. What a night. As the stars try to leave outside shortly after 2:30 A.M. , the paparazzi attack. Stars who attended the concert were Adrian Grenier, Bill Mahr, Melanie Griffith, Tara Reid and others of young hollywood. What a night in the city of angels. Dunham and Morris Hayes rather than everyone but i am probably wrong when did Cora start being called C.C i know its been a while cos thats how she was refered to at the O2 gigs but i swear i have always thought of her as Cora still sounds like a cool evening . The playlist sounds quite reminiscent of the Indigo2 gigs (not that I'm complaining!)
D'you know if I won millions on the lottery I think I'd spend my life following the Prince gigs in person, getting into all the parties, concerts and gigs. Hell, I'd pay for him to come play a gig or two for me! did that sound a bit stalker-ish I'm not stopping. I haven't even taken my coat off

It sounds like it was a fun show. Prince seemed to rock it out! I don't care what the setlist is, I know that I miss seeing Prince. GET OUT OF L.A.AND COME TO NYC!!!!! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

(i like the look of the set btw) well no need 2 say anything since u said it all of the obvious btw @ the setlist man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I think what the naysayers should remember or realize when Prince is playing these "same old songs" is that while he might be playing the song as you know it, he actually performs it totally revamped, changing the bass lines, synth lines, etc. so that it ends up becoming a totally different version . . . AND I LOVE THAT!!!
Songs that I've loved, know frontwards and backwards, and heard for the past 25 years, I've had to say "What the heck is this song?" when he re-works them live . . . .it is those moments worth cherishing when he does that to one of your favorites . . . .
