I think I expected more. confused I'd think that he'd sell more than some of those artists up there, but maybe I give him too much credit lol

I mean only that much sold for 30 years of making music? I'm sure his frequent releases, the WB battle, name change, and the genre they seemed to confine him into may have contributed to this.

But what are sales? He's undboubtedly still one of the greatest musicians, live performers, and songwriters of all time smile

I've never followed Prince's sales because I buy whatever he releases regardless. However, I had no idea that he had sold so many albums. The fact that he has charted his own career and taken chances makes it even more impressive. He's been one of the, if not the, most unconvential music stars of all time. He's not a rock star or a pop star or a Funk/R&B star. He's all of them and he has effortlessy crossed and blended musical genres. He's a mainstream artist(in terms of fame/success) with an indie sensibility. He's always produced himself, written his own music (except for a few covers). Other artists who've sold more than 100 million albums usually do so with the help of megaproducers, megawriters or both. However, he has done it on his own with a rotating cast of musicians. He has always followed his own creative muse. That is what makes Prince so unique and amazing to me. He really doesn't need anyone else.

He was on a billboard list as being#45 for the biggest selling artist. I was surprised at how high he was on the list.
