Parade was the 2nd PRince purchase I made back in the day...I bought PRain 2nd hand for my sister previously.
I Love the collection of songs and my favs on it would be Kiss, CT's Parade and New Position. I recall Prince mentioning he wasn't 2 happy w/ it though.

It's got everything - from ultra danceable catchiness like "Christopher Tracy's Parade" and (obviously) "Kiss" --- to gorgeous tear-jerkers like "Under The Cherry Moon" and "Sometimes It Snows In April" ..... at times weird and dissonant, yet universally glorious and whimsical. I can't get enough of this album. So I ask you all - why didn't it do too well in the States? How could anybody not love "Parade"?
love i love it!!!!! | |

I really like that part where Mary gets on the drums... it's like the Planet Rock New Position jam.

Prince has managed to keep "Girls And Boys" close to being a STAPLE in every tour setlist so he can't be too displeased. (Nevermind the hit "Kiss").

Tame said: I love everything Prince has...but "Parade" is not my favorite cd...I guess it was the movie...I liked the movie...but, it kind of upset me.
I am not crazy about gigolo's...I like faithful men. I think that ws the point to the film, he was very young and messing around but fell totally in love in an impossible situation. Thats what Prince always sings about he yearns for that real intense love hence mountains...you and me, singing away on his floating carpet with wendy looking like an angel! I thought it odd when i went to see it but love it even more know, a fum film that is tongue in cheek not meant serious at all. Its very funny in parts too: 'we caint have the same daddy im caramel and u is choclate or words to that effect and the eyeballin too funny for words. Take it with a pinch of salt and watch again as a good insite into Princes humour. As for the album lovin it I go crazy if i ear girls and boys or indeed kiss, superb stuff. anotherlover is just so good. its in my car its in my mac it travels with e that one, u can revisit it so many times, pull singles out as standalones or listen from beginning to end and see the story unfold and conclude - brilliant walk with crooked shoes www.myspace/syblepurplelishous

like some luxurious thing that you don't want your kids to get their sticky hands on! lol audio-luxurious, awesome i love it. compared to what we've been getting lately, excellent! It's high-end Prince music! That is such a great description of it! Everything is just soooo.....dare I say perfect?? When I first got it I played it over and over...just can't get sick of it... & MOUNTAINS....lost for words...

without doubt his greatest work of art - I cant think of another of his albums where I can play it through and like every track every time

The most embarrassing Prince album of the 1980s. It was like a previous cool hell raiser turning into a geeky waldo.

It's high-end Prince music! Wow! I love the way you think, violetblues. The "luxurious" and "expensive" concept has never crossed my mind before - but I agree 100%. It's a really classy record. High-class! Excellent lick lick lick ..... and by the way - I love all you Prince posters on these forums. You're all so enthusiastic and warm! It's very endearing. Thanks for all the responses! It's true. At the same time, some newbies haven't gotten the opportunity to give kudos. It will be deleted and another will be started. I guess they deserve a chance at the fun. Just like the "prince's next gf/wife" threads. "For those who know the number and don't call...Fuck all y'all"

[storytime]
the Parade era further explains the connection I have with Erykah Badu's music the line she has in ".. & On" "I remember when I went with mama to the washateria..." struck a chord deep inside of me upon first listen... I remember that shit man!!! It took me back to walking to the neighborhood washateria with my mama when we stayed in our old neighborhood... I used to always play the jukebox so this one particular day... my mother was waiting on the laundry to dry watching Jeopardy (I'll never forget) and I begged her... BEGGED her for some quarters so anyway, I'm at the jukebox & running my finger up & down the list of songs through the glass and I see a new tune this particular day what is this tune, you ask? "Mountains" by Prince & The Revolution I was sooooo excited... words can't describe the warmth of the quarter dropping in the slot hitting the rest of the coins... and the needle searching for the right 45... and then the beat dropping for "Mountains"... OMG... I was on cloud nine... I plopped right down on that nasty ass floor indian style in front of the jukebox speakers until the song faded out... and I've been in love with that song ever since [/storytime] also that guitar lick/trick at the beginning of "I Wonder U" is one of my favorite musical moments ever along with the one at the beginning of The Time's "Gigolos Get Lonely Too" because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

Was my favourite album for many years, and the only way to listen to it is 'a la lovesexy' with no breaks. My favourite bit is the start of Mountains. Great album, and unlike anything else I have ever heard by anyone. Like it follows different structures and drifts in such a cool way. It's amazing.

I guess a lot of the, Parade era...has just aged, and it's not the sentiment, that I have with Prince's other records...because Prince was overseas...and I was hurt...I didn't want Prince to turn into a gigolo and make a movie about it...We already knew his potential...It just rubbed the pain in...as the distance between a girl and a boy grew...I always loved Prince no matter who he was dating or who I was dating...Life just tore us apart. It's high-end Prince music! Love your assessment I often felt like that album was like my favorite cookie from his cookie jar..I think he does his most inspired work when he's multi tasking...directing, acting, composing, playing, shooting videos, managing side projects, fighting with his band and his lover. At the time (85/86) his life was the epitome of chaos and disorder...but as the saying goes 'Geniuses thrive on clutter'
