It's nice
Kinda feels like a breath of fresh air (probably his intention since he wrote it for that particular scene). He's done nothing else like it and for that, it's kind of special. Though it does get crushed easily by the competition on that album. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I like the lyrics and the melody...but the vocals. Or should I say, "a vocal."
That girl kinda killed the song for me.

Heard it on Emancipation Radio last night.....it's awesome....it's cool because of it's imperfections..It makes it sound more real. Had a few concert flash backs and it put a big smile on my face

Ver Very underated song,
does it fit in style on the Purple Rain album? .....not exactly. If you were told it was Sheila, instead of Apollonia singing would they like it better?....i think so For some reason i think its the Apollonia factor about it that people dont like, ....and because its kinda girly too.lol but its a hella cool song

This is the only song on that entire album that I never liked. Not saying it's not a good song...there are elements about it that I think are cool. I like the way P has the drums way up front in the mix. I can totally see now that P specifically wrote this song for the film. In that sense, yeah, it fits the scene perfectly. Otherwise, I don't know if P ever would have thought of this song. Seeing him on the Purple Rain tour, it never really worked live either. I liked his guitar jam at the end because that kind of spruced it up a bit but other than that.... SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Perfect song 4 the scene in PR,but I wouldn't b mad at Prince if he left it off his setlists from this point on.

I really like the chords in the Bridge. I rarely listen to this song on record and i detest it live (with the exception of the purple rain tour with the extended funk jam on the end) but i love to play the chords on piano - particularly the part mentioned above

It's a nice song. I could do without the caterwauling by a certain someone, however. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Definately one of my favourites....always sounds good when its played live to.....and the best bit has to be the bridge "I don't care if we spend the night at your mansion"...awesome stuff! www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

funny thing, this is currently the most played Prince song on the radio in my town someone at the station likes it i don't remember it doing that well on the charts, either It didn't do "bad" on the charts in 85, but it didn't do what When Doves or Let's Go did either. Not even close. As far as singles though, I CAN see it beeing seen as a good choice for a single. It has that similar vibe "Rasberry Beret". Another song that I never dug. Except for the 12' inch version with the intro. That was funky. Changed the whole element of the song. P has a great knack for doing shit like that. Bringing in a totally different aspect to the song. He did that on the 12 inch of Little Red Corvette. He KNOWS how to bring a much darker, funkier, rawer element to a otherwise middle of the road pop song. Not that Little Red was middle of the road but Rasberry and Take Me was as pop as P had wanted to get at that stage. And to this day, they play the shit out of Beret on the radio. I like Take Me a lil' mo' better than Beret actually. I would have dug Take Me even better back in 84 if Patty didn't have her no singing ass on it. The melody would have been perfect for Lisa to had sung along with Prince instead. But of course, that wouldn't had made any sense as far as the film went either so.....Apples was the Kids' love in the film so it was her that HAD to be on the track. But for me, she killed off the song. That "woohoohoohoo" thing that she did on the end of this song and on Sex Shooter was like "urghhhhh!! Prince,....make her stop!" SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

My favourite version of this song is the video version when Prince does that amazing solo. Interesting Susan Rogers said she sat in on the edit with Prince so he probably did come up with the fade to lanscape footage during the solo rather than a director.
