I've tried to get into it over my break from the Org and it just doesn't grab me Except for "Extraordinary" the rest of it tends to bore me What about you?

i it, personally. i like prince doing jazzy kind of stuff like that. perhaps it just isn't your cup of tea , i can't get into one nite alone piano and voice for the life of me and i paid $115 for it .

I think, "The Vault" is one of Prince's sexiest records...I love it through and though.

It's not a bad effort considering it's meant 2 B cast off tracks just 2 fulfill his WB contract! I think it a nice album bar Little Pill!

Never got into it as an album - because it isn't one!

It's a collection of singles, that when listened to with other tracks from eras they relate to are mostly brilliant!

But trying to listen to as an album I find really hard as each following track dosn't sit well with the one you've just heard and it's too easy to skip, or want to listen to a different Prince album!

i LOVE this album. it was a little ironic that when it came out, it ended up being way better than Rave, which was released a few months later.

tossed-off contract filler from the early 90's (put together only 3 years earlier) was better than his new album that year.

I love this one. When The Lights Go Down is one of my all time fave songs. Also love 5 Women, Its About That Walk, and Extraordinary. My Little Pill is a segue more than a song imo...but its not THAT bad.

Alltough i dont think the songwriting on the album is "extraordinary" (lol), i think the playing by the NPG on the tracks from the nineties is exceptional.

I also love the way the material is recorded. Most songs sound like they are live-recordings, probably with some overdubs, but nonetheless it makes this material sound rather fresh.

Last but not least i like the fact that in Prince-terms the music is very traditional: mostly jazz, blues and soul in its purest form.
Prince often has a tendency to throw 'weird' or different stuff into the mix (a synthline, a drummachine, or some sound effects), even more 'stylistically pure' albums like Chaos and Disorder and The truth have a lot of sound effects on them. But on The Vault he mostly keeps its 'clean' and thats nice for a change.

And, indeed, it tells a damn lot that this set of outtakes and leftover makes for a better album then 'Rave', which was released in the same year.
