PROVE to me that this is not true (NO SPARRING OR FLAMING PLEASE) In your own words, without flaming or fighting with those who disagree, state the reasons why you find this to be false. Wether personal experiences, or lyrics that touch you, or accounts of things he's done to give back. Let's turn this thread into a fucking LOVE FEST yall!

I dont think he hates his fans, I think he has a weird way of showing gratitude.
I think he has done lots of great things for his fanbase. I think he is the type of person who likes to have full control of what is said, and done with his music, and does not like to share. I will love him and his music, no matter what.... Say it's just a dream...

What does Flaming or sparring mean?
If Prince hated his fans he probably wouldn't go on the road at all...and the most obvious reason is that Prince loves God...He couldn't hate his brothers and sisters that he shares "Planet Earth" with. It would be physically impossible to hug everyone that loves him. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

Prince doesn't hate his fans, and it's a dumb statement to make! (I know it's not you making that statement Imago)
He upsets some of us maybe, but I don't think it's intentional - I just think he's got certain values and morals that he sometimes expects the rest of us to have also and doesn't quite cope once he realises that we don't. When that happens, he seems to rebel inwardly and sulk, I guess. He's provided a heck of a lot of music with the fans in mind; from giving it away to selling obscure, non-commercial material on his own website. The NPGMC was ahead of its time in so far as it pre-dated the broadband generation and would go down a storm now, whereas back in Year One, most people were on dial-up and so the whole thing was more of a negative experience for many rather than a positive. With regards to loving him for anything: I don't love Prince and I don't think any one of us here possibly can do unless we know him personally as a friend or maybe more. I love Prince's work and I see him as a bit of a spiritual comrade, but as for loving Prince himself? I'm nowhere near close enough to even contemplate such a bold idea. And I'd guess that neither are 99%+ of the members of the Org. I think the people who delve too deeply into the man can only be disappointed - after all, we are only human, even Prince. Just enjoy the music and enjoy the ride - even the parts of the ride where Prince goes into reverse and stops at the most boring service station you've ever been to. Good thread, Imago.

I think really he doesn't understand his fans. He sees all the fanatics and I really think he thinks those are his fans. I think Prince Loves the money and he LOVES sticking it to record labels. He's not thinking of the fans or what we want.
He's isolated and lives in his Purple World and has for a long time now. He was very precocious as a teenager and is quite smart and clever. But it's not about being smart and clever about what he brings about in his art for us...it's really for and all about him. I imagine that this is the reason he has troubles with interviews and communicating in general. He thinks he's being smart and clever like he was back when but really comes across these days as controlling and contrived. Christian Zombie Vampires

A lot of true artists out there don't have that luxury. As you said, he is also smart and clever about the whole thing. I don't think he hates his fans. If that was the case we wouldn't get the great shows. I have seen plenty of shows where I left feeling a little cheated by other acts., Not Prince! But again, maybe that is just pride in his work and art. As for communicating... I saw that when he was a kid. As a man almost 50, he has done some great interviews. I love the one with Chris Rock. They seemed to have a lot of fun, just sitting around shooting the breeze. It was during the "Artist" time and Chris Rock even called him Prince! He apoligized and Prince just laughed and said it was okay.

What really makes me think he doesn't entirely hate his fans, was the aftershow, it amazed me that someone of his 'stature' or whatever you want to call it, would play such a small venue, for practically pennies, and he really did seem to be giving back.... I felt pretty privileged to be in that situation - a bit like going down your local pub and Prince getting up to play He seemed to be loving every minute of it too....

I think he doesn't like criticism. He doesn't like to be told what to do. He wants to take risks in the way he runs his business and takes responsibility for the consequences.
There is some egocentrism in Prince but let's keep in mind fans can be too demanding or too annoying especially when it comes to his private life. He comes to play what he wants to play or what he feels like bringing and he goes home. That's it. We need to accept the artist for who he is and appreciates his work. My two cents...

His fans give him the adoration that he loves. Have you seen him live? Have you watched his face when the fans scream, cheer and sing his lyrics back at him? He often asks for the arena lights to be switched on so that he can see his fans. Having said that the above scenario is Prince loving his fans on HIS terms.
I'd say Prince has a love/hate relationship - he hates his fans when they don't act in the way that is acceptable to HIM, but loves them when they do. The song that most sums this up is 'Strange Relationship'. And that's MY 2 cents... I'm not stopping. I haven't even taken my coat off

BTW - I've just seen the Chris Rock interview and WOW! What a fantastic interview, he came off as being a really nice guy, no acting, no bullshit, no humming over questions, no stupid scarves over his face, just honest answers - he REALLY should do more of those... actually, it was done in 1997... methinks it's time for another one I'm not stopping. I haven't even taken my coat off

Stupid post.
Prince has bent over backwards to accomodate fans in recent years. Look you can't have it all. He doesn't like people talking shit about him on the 'net and he doesn't like being bootlegged by individuals or corporations. Doesn't mean he hates fans. He hates being taken advantage of. I don't blame him one bit. If he doesn't stand up for himeself then who will? -Free songs released on the internet. -Meeting with fans during the ONA tour. -People who have come across him in LV said he was cool to them. -Doing his thing with complete integrety. As a fan, I am proud of what Prince represents. But every since he sued Uptown back in the 90's there has been this constant undercurrent of negativity toward him from fansites. Y'all need to let it go.

"Hate" is such a strong word. I don't think Prince hates his fans because then he would be stupid (that goes for every celebrity). You can't hate the people who pay your electric bill and put food on your table. He's just upset about all the 'little man' jokes and that we laugh at all those pics of him wearing socks with platform sandals...we didn't tell him to wear that shit. He's just going through 'male-o-pause' right now because he's hitting the big 5-0 this year, so he'll be alright. Damn Mood Swings!
When he goes on stage and does a performance, he never disappoints, so he can't hate his fans that much. If he ever pulls that nonsense that Britney did at the VMAs last year, than I would totally agree with the statement. Let him have pulled that shit and he wouldn't have any fans to hate. I once paid 25 cents for a half hour live set at The El Rey in 2004. There was even a press conference where we could ask questions. I think he loves his fans. Case closed!!!!

I think Prince is a perfectionist....He's way past talented and has created more great music and gone through so many changes...Obviously he's way past intelligent as well. I think Prince is a lot like a kid in school that gets bored because he's ahead of the class. Yeah, consistency would be nice.....I don't think that's the way genius brains work.....We all change and grow....We just feel it personally with him because we care or none of us would bother to even get upset.....We all love him...and he loves us...and respects us enough not to drag us through all of the drama he goes through. He does have a life with out us and sometimes I think he deserves some privacy. If we want him to be his best then we need to respect his choices (we don't have to like them lol) He's the best of the best....and I wish him the best of everything.....and I'm very thankful for everyone on here. Chatting on here makes me smile even more when I hear his music...I'll remember something someone said on here and it can make me laugh out loud...it makes Princes music that much more enjoyable....mean it mean it from my heart.... hugs to all!!! and of course to Prince....

Prince doesn't hate. he loves because it is the perfect reality. earth is not real. if anyone messes with him, he forgives them and moves on. Hes just sometimes annoyed by his fans making him to temporarily 'hate' or dislike his fans. truthfully though' he loves his fans and appriciates them but i know there are some who are not his friends. a friend dosen't hurt his 'best friend'.
